If you like unconditional love and lots of affection from your canine then BERNIE is the dog for you! This sweet, lovable male Border Collie mix came into our rescue as just another stray, but quickly stole our hearts. BERNIE is about one year old, has a medium short coat and weighs about 50 lbs. He is an active boy with a playful personality. He is very much a puppy in temperament and energy. He enjoys walking around with a toy in his mouth and going for walkies on the trail and around the neighborhood, He is very much a cuddle boy and loves his food!

BERNIE will require someone who has the time to give him stimulating DAILY exercise because “an exercised dog is a calm and happy dog”! This amazing boy has not had a single accident in his foster home. He is crate trained and, in fact, after grabbing a “sleep buddy” toy goes willingly into his crate at bedtime and sleeps quietly all through the night. In the mornings he can’t wait for his breakfast and he will sit nicely until it is put down . . . then it’s playtime again! BERNIE was a free spirit before coming into foster care so he is used to doing what he wants. In spite of that, he is starting to respond to commands and has now mastered “sit”! We are continuing to work on obedience and manners, but of course he will need continuing training. He is very treat motivated which will make his continued training fun and easy. BERNIE walks nicely on a leash, though also very interested in his surroundings, so additional leash training would be beneficial.

When BERNIE came into rescue we had surgery undertaken to correct his eyelid entropion, a condition in which the eyelids turn inward and irritate the eyes. He is now healed and the condition is non-recurring. Once the hair around his eyes grows back fully he will be his old handsome self!

His foster Mom has been socializing him and he has been friendly with everyone he meets. Border Collies can be picky about their canine mates, but he has been friendly with the other dogs he has met and seems to just want to play with them. BERNIE is keen of chasing most anything that crosses his path and give lizards and squirrels a run for their money! For this reason we do not recommend a household with cats. He has however learned to ONLY give the Border Collie “eye” to foster Mom’s fish in the outdoor pond! BERNIE’s tail is always wagging and he is a happy-go-lucky dog who just wants to be loved! If you have enough love to share with him BERNIE is ready to start looking for his forever home.

BERNIE is micro-chipped, neutered, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations.
