Meet BESS! This sweet, soft girl is looking for a very special person to call her own. She is a gorgeous dog, with a thick, beautiful coat, and her perky ears and white points give her an extra dash of personality. BESS is 4 years old, putting her past the puppy stage, making her perfect for a person looking for a more mature companion. BESS had a bit of a rough start, with little to no socialization with people or otherwise, causing her to be shy and cautious around new people or surroundings. We have been working on this daily, with quiet love and patience, and BESS has begun her transformation from a shy frightened girl into a quiet, shadowlike companion. She has latched onto her foster mom during her time in our care, gradually learning to trust and look to mom for guidance (and treats!!). When she is nervous or unsure, she will bury her face into her foster mom's jacket, needing some calm reassurance that everything is ok and she is safe.

BESS has been a lovely houseguest, appears housebroken, and is quiet as a mouse! We have literally not heard one peep from her during her stay in her foster home. We haven't asked much of her as far as basic commands yet, focusing instead on building trust in humans and bringing her out of her shell. Despite this, BESS seems to know to sit when she comes in to foster mom for pets and assurance. She could very well know more commands that we just haven't asked of her. Once establishing a trusting relationship, her new owner won’t have any trouble teaching BESS basic commands, as she wants to please her person and just be near them. She enjoys treats as reward, which is always helpful during any training.  BESS could use some additional time on a leash, but just needs confidence building initially. She has completely ignored the cats in her foster home, or when they do approach, she makes a wide berth around them. BESS is crate trained, and is most comfortable in her crate so far, choosing to rest in it even while the door is left open. During the night she is silent and sleeps the whole night. She knows when its potty time, and follows mom straight to the door out to the doggie yard.  Once she has finished, she is the first dog back to the door waiting to be let in.

BESS gets along fine with the other border collies in her foster home, but she seeks comfort from her person instead of the other dogs, so she would be just fine as an only dog as well, perhaps even better for it. She is perfectly happy just lounging quietly during the goings on in her foster home. Considering her background, BESS will do best in a quiet, one or two person home, without a lot of coming and going or small children. She thrives on routine, and that has helped her gain confidence so far. BESS is waiting patiently for her perfect person to come along.

BESS is micro-chipped, spayed, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations.
