Say hello to CAPTAIN! He is about a year old and has a soft, easy care, smooth coat. CAPTAIN loves to be close to his human and his favorite thing is to play ball in which he will bring it back and set it at your feet every time!. He is not overly ball crazy though, once you put it away he will settle down easily. CAPTAIN also loves squeaky toys and any kind of chew toys. He will entertain himself for hours with a hard rubber Kong toy.

CAPTAIN is a medium to high energy boy who needs daily exercise and stimulation. He has really great recall and is working on his leash training. He also knows sit and down. He is very treat and praise motivated and learns things quickly. While we don't know what he experienced before coming into rescue, he acts like everything is new to him. The first few times, he would not get in the car on his own. Now he will jump in on his own. When he first went to the lake, he would not go near the water. After 15 minutes he was playing and splashing and having a grand time. He also enjoys biting the water coming out of the hose. CAPTAIN is a real character who has a lot of exuberance for life. He makes his foster mom laugh every day. He can be goofy and gangly one minute then cuddly and trying to crawl up in your lap the next.

CAPTAIN came into rescue a bit on the thin side at 40 lbs and could put on another 5-10 lbs as he fills out. He gets along well with other dogs his size. He was a bit too curious about the small dog and the cats in the house at first but has settled down over time as he gets to know them. He would do OK with a dog savvy cat once he gets used to them. CAPTAIN can be a little timid when meeting new people inside the house. When he is out on walks he has no problem with other people we meet on a walk, but in the house he can act a little scared and protective. Slow introductions to new people in the house is best. He also doesn't like a lot of commotion in the house (kids running around, lots of people coming in and out). It seems to make him nervous. He would do best in a relatively calm house hold.

CAPTAIN is crate trained and sleeps easily in his crate through the night. He is also OK with being crated for a few hours while his humans are away, especially if he has his favorite chew toy to keep him busy. He had one potty accident in the house the first day but once he learned how to use the dog door he has not had another accident. CAPTAIN needs a loving touch to help him feel secure and to reassure him as he experiences all that life has to offer. He will reward you with his loyalty, affection and happy smile.

CAPTAIN is micro-chipped, neutered, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations.
