Jasper • Male • 6 years • Adopted! Please return to the Home page to start your search for available dogs! Thank you!
JASPER is a 6-year-old, neutered male. He is a classic black and white rough coat. He does not however have a thick undercoat and just loves being brushed! For fun, he likes to walk, play frisbee, play tug, swim, and chase flies. He travels very well in the car and has not gotten car sick. He walks well on a harness and knows his basic commands of sit, stay, down, and back. He is housebroken, and crate trained, though once settled in a new environment he prefers to sleep on his dog bed! In the morning he enjoys cuddling on the bed. He has been very good in his foster home when left alone and has not gotten into any mischief. He is excellent with cats. He has no interest in them at all.
JASPER has a very funny and loving personality. He has those traits that we love in border collies. He will snuggle up against you and loves to be petted; he enjoys having fun and just wants to go places with his people. JASPER would always preferto always be with his people and if left behind may vocalize for a few minutes, but then settles. Sometimes he can also take a few minutes to acclimate to strangers and can be a little hand shy. Quick movements from behind or over his head can startle him as well. Once he built trust with us this skittish behavior disappeared.
JASPER has been responding well to leash training and is now starting to sit and wait for dogs to pass by. Previously JASPER might over-react to some dogs when on leash. This is training that will need to continue until he becomes used to greeting other dogs properly. Currently, it is best not to have JASPER off leash with other dogs as he does not like other dogs to run up into his face.
JASPER would do best in an adult home where he is the only dog. He needs an owner who is border collie savvy, with whom he can put his trust in, and will be patient with him as he gets comfortable in his new environment. Most likely he would prefer a rural setting where he can hang out and help his people with their daily tasks or with someone who enjoys spending a lot of time outdoors. With that said, he is in fact settling well into an urban environment. He is not afraid of loud noises, doesn't chase cars, bikes, or skateboards, but does take interest in the squirrels (welcome to the club Jasper!). If you like to spend time with a dog doing fun things, have border collie experience, and have a home/property with room for a dog to work and play, JASPER would love to meet with you to discuss your future together in which he might become your new best friend.
