JEFF is a gorgeous, 1 ½ years old Border collie with a smooth, yet silky coat. JEFF spent almost 4 months on crate rest recovering from surgery of a broken leg. As the result of the care of the UC Davis Veterinarian medical team and love and attention of the NCBCRA foster staff, JEFF has recovered magnificently from his car accident. Over the past few months JEFF has begun exploring life beyond the crate. He enjoys long walks in the neighborhood, running in the big back yard, and road trips with his trusted foster siblings. Give JEFF a Kong stuffed with peanut butter and he is set to entertain himself. JEFF is very much a Border collie; he loves to herd (people, cats, other dogs), to stalk (birds, squirrels); he loves to chase after balls, Frisbees and his foster siblings. JEFF loves to explore outdoor smells outdoors, which may require an occasional dig or two. However, the strategically placement of a large rock will deter his interest easily. If given an opportunity to expend his energy beforehand, JEFF is very content to just hang out with foster Mom and siblings and watch the world go by.
JEFF’s success is largely due to slow transitions to new environments. His foster Mom gave him the time he needed first to heal, then he began to slowly adjust to life as a dog in a family unit. Becoming acquainted to each foster sibling one at a time. Offering JEFF equal time for training, playing, and being loved, JEFF has confidently come to learn what is expected of him, to relax, enjoy being a dog, to love his foster siblings and to trust his foster Mom.
JEFF is crate trained and housebroken and will let you know if needs to go outside to relieve himself. He responds very well to his name and knows basic commands such as come, sit, lay down, stay, not (used instead of no). JEFF is leash trained; he walks well solo and with a companion. JEFF does not hoard his food, in fact, can be easily distracted from eating, and unintentionally (with ease) share his bowl with another dog. On the other hand, when it comes to learning new behavior, JEFF is easily bribed with the sweet taste of carrots! Recently, he mastered a game where he was required to tap with his paw or nose to release the treat from its ‘hidden’ location.
JEFF can be shy at first when meeting new people and four legged companions. Once he learns he has met new friends, his youthful playfulness appears and he becomes eager to play. JEFF is a big bundle of joy! He loves to give kisses and hugs. He loves to snuggle and cuddle. He loves to play. He loves to be loved. He is very bright and intelligent, and quick to learn. And he wants to please everyone. If JEFF’s big smile doesn’t warm you over, surely his gentle nature will!!!
JEFF is micro-chipped, neutered, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations.
