Additional notes: We are rehoming our dog Frankie, who is a likely purebred border collie.
He is good with other dogs, great with our 8 month old baby, and has been sweet around other kids, though he can be a little wild in terms of running around and trying to get pets. He will do great with other dogs, or kids. He’s a pretty easy guy to get along with.
While we love him and he is a close part of our family, we’re making the decision to rehome him because we have a 6 month old baby, and with plans to have more we realized that an hour or more of walking a day and a run or chasing the ball at the park is just not enough for him. With no plans to move, we want to help him find a better home where he’ll be more physically and intellectually active.
Frankie’s pros: He is sweet, playful, has a great temperament, and is patient and obedient. He knows sit, down, touch, come very well, and has excellent off leash recall while on runs in parks. He mostly ignores other dogs when out and about, and is very people-focused. He initially had some mouthiness, but we trained him to quit it, except for when he’s really excited. He has no anxiety, and is very calm in general. Around the house he’s very trustworthy – we can leave him home alone with free reign of the house without any concerns. He loves to sleep and hang out under our bed, and generally is an easy going dog as long as he gets his exercise, which is about 1-2 hours a day of walking and play. He loves fetch or a long run or hike!
Frankie’s cons: He can be excitable when meeting people initially with a little jumping, but calms down quickly and is very sweet and wiggly, really just looking for a lot of pets and attention. While he is obedient on walks, he does pull on the leash, and we use a face lead on walks, which is the only real solution that has worked to date. He does occasionally get riled up by other dogs, but this mostly shows up with some whining and sort of lunging at the other dog to sniff. He hasn’t had any real dog scuffles. However, he does get a little scared of loud noises like power tools, and sometimes things like cardboard boxes and plastic bags blowing… I know, it’s a little odd, but he can be pretty freaked out if caught off guard. He really just retreats and tries to find safety when scared.
