“Oreo is a neutered 2 and 4 months year old white and black border collie. Oreo is a very special boy with special needs who needs a special home. He needs to be in a household with a lot of FENCED outdoor areas with no livestock or other pets. He does well with smaller dogs and puppies but is not reliable with dogs his size and bigger. During his obedience classes, he would make friends with bigger dogs, however, it took him a long time to warm up and get comfortable.
He cannot be placed in a home with children or a lot of guests. He recently has very few people and dog friends he trusts and who are able to socialize with him. Some of them are kids, however, Oreo has been raised around them.
He’s not one to be walked off-leash, taken hiking, hanging at the beach, or other public places. He’s not the best fit for dog parks. He needs to be a homebody with a lot of space to run and express his high energy level. He reacts well to training and could probably make even bigger improvements if proper training was provided for him. Due to his unpredictability around people and kids plus the owner’s health problems his current owner cannot provide him with more training and enough activities to keep him happy.
He loves to play ball and Frisbee. He’s very obedient and knows a lot of commands. He’s always eager to learn more. He is very stubborn and gets bored quickly, so the treats he works for need to be high-value.
He requires experienced owners who understand the dog’s unpredictability and who do not look for a household pet but rather a yardwork companion. He will eagerly follow and he will get attached. He will bark when startled and when a stranger approaches letting everybody know to stay away.
He’s house and crate trained. He’s never had an accident even while being left alone for a long time. He gets anxious when left alone, though. He loves to travel in the car with his current owner.
Oreo will hang around his people but he won’t ask to be pet. He prefers if ALL people stay outside of his personal bubble. He would benefit tremendously from additional training.
Oreo currently lives with two older children, however, he’s very unpredictable with them, therefore it would be best for him to find a household with no children.
