Fostering

Foster Homes Needed

Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions is always in need of foster homes.  Being a foster saves lives! Dogs are routinely being euthanized due to overcrowding in shelters. More foster families means more lives saved. You can foster as much or as little as it works for you. Be a foster once, twice, or three times a year, or whatever time allotment suits your schedule.

A secure yard is required. Dogs must sleep in the house at night and we prefer they be trained to sleep in a crate. Ideally you should have time to socialize and exercise your foster dog. Also, all of your own dogs must be spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines.

Fosters are the backbone of our rescue and we could not do what we do without them. Please consider becoming a foster! Even if you are just curious about it, lets talk.

Getting Started

Formal training experience is not required, but having some basic training and previous Border Collie experience is a plus. Depending on your experience, we try to provide new fosters with more easily managed dogs at first until they are more comfortable with fostering. Some people welcome a batch of puppies while others prefer dogs over 6 months old. We do our best to accommodate your needs and your situation.

Living with a border collie is wonderful, though not always easy. We will support you throughout your foster experience. We pay for food and all veterinary care required. If you would like to be a foster or learn more about it, please fill out the Foster Application form.  Someone will be in touch with you to discuss your situation in more detail.

Please Note: We do not do ‘foster to adopt’.  There is a 2 week trail period with all adopted dogs where you can return the dog if its not a fit. If adoption is what you are really interested in, please fill out an Adoption Application.
