Mona (Formerly Mama Bess)

Female, 4 years, 45 lbs

MONA JAN 2020

MONA is a shy gal who is looking for a quiet home. She would love to be guided by a gentle & patient family that will let her set the timeline for progress. She is looking for someone to be at home with her most of the time, and she requested at least one other dog in the house. MONA will be more at ease with another dog (or dogs) that can lead the way and show her the ropes. MONA is working on her potty habits. She mostly takes her queue from Sissy and Newt, her foster siblings, to go outside, but she will sometimes head to the door on her own if she has to go. We do get her out regularly to get her used to the routine. At this point she does not care about the indoor cat, and pays little attention to the outdoor cats when we walk out front. MONA is approximately 45 lbs with a medium rough coat.

MONA came from a place with lots of dogs and likely little or no positive interaction with humans. MONA came along nicely at her first foster home, seeking out affection from mom after a time. It was learned there that she is sound sensitive. Moderate to loud bangs like hand clapping will bother her. Special care certainly will need to be taken during fireworks or similar happenings. Other dogs barking does not seem to be much bother but otherwise is in a pretty quiet location now and is relaxing more each day. She travels well and is decent on a leash.

For MONA’s first week at her new foster home she kept mostly to herself, feeling safe and secure in her crate. We’d take her out on a leash to do her business and get her used to the yard, then she’d want to come right back inside to her crate. She’d let us pet her (she seemed to like scratches under her chin most). Oddly we had a breakthrough on her vet visit just a couple days after her arrival. I (her foster dad) took her, and she laid her head on my lap the whole time in the waiting room. Other dogs were coming in and going and she paid little attention. She did pretty well with the staff. One week to the day, as I am writing her narrative, she wandered into my office and curled up on the dog bed by my side. When I quietly acknowledged she was there she got up and put her head on my lap for some pets! MONA would love for you to be that person to pet and love her for years to come.

MONA is  micro-chipped, spayed, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application and wish to enquire about MONA, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.

MONA is being fostered north of Corning in Tehama County, CA.
