MAGGIE ADOPTED

Female, 3 years, 33 lbs

LUELLA (MAGGIE) MAY 2021

Maggie is a petite (33#)  3-year-old border collie mix with a heart of gold.  Even when she was in the shelter, she was smiling, friendly, and wagging her tail with everyone she met.  When she has gone to the vet for exams and vaccines, she has acted as if she was going to Disneyland.  The staff said they have never had a dog come in that seemed so happy and comfortable to be there.  She likes men and women equally and truly does not know a stranger.

At home, Maggie is a calm dog, who doesn’t jump up or dash around.  She follows her foster mom around the house and yard, but is also happy to explore on her own.  She is not yet interested in toys, but she is a smart and biddable girl, who could learn to play with toys if she were coaxed and rewarded.  She loves to go for leashed walks in her orchard neighborhood, and walks on a loose leash.  She notes other dogs behind fences, but doesn’t express intent interest.  She walks with her foster sister, another border collie, side-by-side, and she’s very comfortable having her foster mom’s friends walk her.  She gets excited about squirrels and birds on the ground and low branches.  If she were off leash, she would certainly chase them–so cats are probably not a good fit for her.  On leash, she can easily be redirected away from her interest in the squirrels and birds.

Maggie has lovely house manners and is crate-trained and housebroken.  She will alarm bark when someone comes to the house, but stops when her foster mom directs her to.  She is treat-motivated, and takes treats nicely even when sitting next to another dog.  Maggie does  “herd” the other border collies in her foster home, staring at them and chasing if they run.  They quickly tire of this, and she will stop if her foster mom tells her to.  That said, she quickly returns to her monitoring them and chasing them if they move.  And she’s never taken her “supervisor” role further.  Maggie could probably live easily with another dog in a border collie savvy household, but would truly love to be someone’s one-and-only.  Her favorite thing is to be with her person, soaking up all the love and attention.

MAGGIE is micro-chipped, spayed, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application and wish to inquire about MAGGIE, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.

Maggie is fostering north of Sacramento.
