ADOPTED – MILO

Male, 12 – 18 months, 42 lbs

MILO

Let’s say hello to MILO. Milo is a 12-to-18-month old black and white rough- coated border collie. Milo is ready for to find his forever home, one he can call his own.

MILO knows his name. Like many young border collies, he likes to relax with his foster family after getting a moderate-to-significant amount of exercise. A brisk walk, a long hike, time chasing a ball, maybe a short jog, etc. all make Milo happy. Milo LOVES chewing and chomping on appropriate chew toys.  Milo is kind-natured and receptive to people and other dogs. When he first came into rescue Milo was shy when he first met new people, promptly rolling over on his back for belly rubs.  (He can never get enough belly rubs!!)  However, over the time he’s been in his foster home, he has learned to relax and to seek attention from people, often putting his face in someone’s hand very sweetly.

Our beautiful boy Milo is receptive to common commands and is semi-trained in most basic pet routines. For example, Milo knows how to sit, but as a young, energetic dog he can be distracted. He knows the command to stay, but needs more practice and fine-tuning with this command. He responds appropriately to being told he needs to stop something he’s doing that he shouldn’t be.  All this to say, Milo will benefit from ongoing training and TLC.  Inside the house MILO mostly behaves well, but he does need further training with proper “inside” manners. For instance, Milo seems very comfortable flopping on the top of beds and couch; he simply needs his energy curbed before being given the invitation to do so.

MILO is very comfortable using a crate. Milo knows the “crate” command and loves getting a treat after scooting himself inside it. Milo spends all night in the crate without any whining or crying when his pack and people are nearby. He does whine a bit when his pack and people depart for other responsibilities, but this quickly passes. Milo wants to be with his pack.  MILO is housebroken. His foster family had a few brief experiences with him marking when he first joined their household, but it quickly passed after 48 hours or so.

MILO is very persuasive with his deep eyes and sweet expressive face. He has spurts of super high energy and is sometimes distracted (or super-focused on other things). He will benefit from engagement and encouragement, which will boost his confidence.  He looks for a home with border collie and training experience and one that will enjoy partnering with him to help him become the most and best Milo he can be.  Like many young border collies, Milo displays natural herding tendencies, i.e., a desire to chase, making cats an uncertainty at this time.

MILO is micro-chipped, spayed, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application and wish to inquire about MILO, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.

MILO is fostering in Fair Oaks in Sacramento County, CA.
