Meet JAX, a sweet 4.5 year-old male beautifully marked smooth coat black and white border collie with inquisitive brown eyes. He weighs in at a slim and slender 30 pounds. JAX is looking for a loving and caring home. He may have been under-socialized as a puppy as JAX is a dog sensitive to change and/or to environments where he feels he has no control. JAX has a high “flight” complex. He does not like loud noises and is fearful during thunderstorms. JAX is also fearful and hyper-sensitive outside after dark. He wants to trust and loves to play with other dogs, but has a high startle response. JAX is happiest when he has a consistent, dependable, and calm household, with a very solid routine. Change in his daily routine will definitely set back his attitude and training.
JAX is a gentleman when inside and is housebroken. He stays on his bed next to the fire and plays with a toy. JAX is very content. He sits and lays down on command. He will shake both left and right front feet on command and “talks” on command. JAX seldom, if ever, barks and licking is not allowed. When outside, in the fully fenced yard, JAX does not dig, chew, or destroy plants. He loves to lay and relax in the sun. JAX has learned how to fetch and is progressing well with off-leash heeling. When outside, he will have a light “drag leash” safety snapped to his collar to assist with his recall. JAX is food motivated. He loves swimming and is confident on a paddle board (with his life jacket).
JAX has come a very long way since coming into Northern California Border Collie Rescue. He has been with his foster family for over a year. He will cuddle and loves to be petted. He will take a treat gently from your hand (once trust is built). JAX loves to go camping and is a very good and a secure traveler. However, JAX can never be allowed to be off leash and or to run free outside of a very well and securely fenced area. He is a candidate for a GPS collar or similar location device.
JAX gets along fine with most other dogs; however, he is not fond of “yappy” small, pestering dogs. With all other dogs, when on walks, JAX has no issues or arguments. He has not been exposed to cats. He is not comfortable with loud or pestering small children and will retreat to the sanctuary of his crate when small children are around and about. JAX needs a slow-paced home environment with lots of gentle human one-on-one consistent contact. He flourishes with routine and consistency. A home with knowledge of fearful dog behavior is preferred. JAX has had no accidents in the house; he is crate-trained and sleeps all night through. He enjoys his meals in the privacy of his crate. JAX is ready to meet his new caring and understanding forever family.
