Female, 3 years 52 lbs.
We are excited to announce our sweet mama MAGPIE is available for adoption. You may have seen her beautiful Halloween pups adopted out last year. She is a 52 pound, 3-year-old border collie mix. She has a silky, smooth coat and black and white coloring. Magpie is long and lean with a white-tipped tail.
MAGPIE has a sweet and friendly disposition. She loves people and other dogs and wants to play and be part of the pack. She will do well with another young dog who also like to wrestle and chase, or an older dog that loves to play and run. Magpie is praise- motivated and is very smart. She sits nicely for a cookie and has been working on her manners. She would benefit from further obedience training to be the best dog she can be.
MAGPIE is very friendly with new people and presents no fear or aggression. Her first instinct is to jump up and give you a hug and a kiss, but she is learning to stay on all fours when greeting people. She is very relaxed while walking through the neighborhood on leash. She would probably do best in a cat-free home or with a dog-savvy cat in the home. Magpie is easy to walk; she checks in and prefers to walk by your side. She rides well in the car—no drooling or car sickness—but she definitely needs to be crated or seat-belted as she wants to climb up front and give kisses while you drive.
MAGPIE is a high-energy girl. She is very athletic, leaping over the couch and chasing her foster siblings in play. She will make a great hiking/running/adventuring partner; she might even be a candidate for agility or other dog sports! Magpie will do best with someone who is home a good part of the day as she will need lots of attention, exercise, and play time. Like most active, athletic border collies, she needs a secure fence.
After a walk or play time, Magpie will settle on her bed nicely for a nap. She does love to chew, and like many young border collies, she will attempt mischief if unattended. Foster mom has been working with her to identify which items are for chewing. She prefers plush toys with squeakers, but is also a fan of harder chew toys.
MAGPIE loves to cuddle with humans; lounging on the couch and giving kisses is her favorite past-time, and would love to sleep in bed with you, if allowed. However, she is perfectly happy sleeping in her crate at night and waits patiently for you to come get her for breakfast! When her foster parents are away, she is fine with being crated for a few hours during the day. Magpie is also reliably housetrained.
MAGPIE is a very sweet dog who will make someone a wonderful companion. She is willing and eager to please and very smart. She will be a great addition to a household with other active dogs and a family that has time for a high-energy dog.
