Mama Peach Pie’s Puppies all ADOPTED
MAMA PEACH PIE, barely more than a teenager, found herself in the family way in a small, rural shelter. The shelter called to tell us about her situation, & they were keen to transfer her to rescue before she delivered her puppies. So, we picked her up the next day. She arrived at her rescue foster home very pregnant & despite her difficult circumstances, as sweet as pie & puppyish. She simply couldn’t have any other name!
The Pie puppies were born on December 10th, & at birth revealed their movie star good looks. As soon as their eyes & ears opened for business, we were delighted to see that the pups have also inherited Mama Peach Pie’s sweet & playful disposition, as well as her smarts. They are now excited & ready to find their forever homes.
The puppies have been raised around other adult dogs & cats. They are social with both. (Mama Peach has been keenly interested in the livestock at their foster home, so perhaps one or more of the pups will have some interest in herding). The pups have enjoyed regular visits from people since they were born, so they are all outgoing & social. They are surprisingly agile for their age. They spend most of their time in a large pen together; they sleep together in the pen; & they are learning to potty on newspaper in their pen. The weather has been too cold & wet for more than one or two outings in the yard. They eat their meals in their individual crates, & they have traveled to the vet in their crates. None of them have gotten carsick.
Because these puppies are so gorgeous, we know it will be easy to fall in love at first sight. These pups have a lot more going on than stunning looks, so we ask that you think seriously about whether you want a herding dog puppy with all the responsibilities that entails. These pups are going to need LOTS of attention, activities to stimulate their brains, & training that takes into account a herding dog’s extra needs. They may be candidates for dog sports like agility, nosework, barn hunt, dock diving, etc. They may be good hiking buddies. All of the puppies are keen about toys—ones that squeak; ones they can chew; & ones they can tug & drag around. Their favorites toys are cardboard boxes; they can climb in them, drag them, & chew them.
Adopted. FRUIT CAKE, AKA FRUITCAKE (M) has a stunning red & white rough coat, gorgeous blaze, & collar. His coat makes him look much bigger than he is because it’s so soft & fluffy. Fruitcake, Pumpkin Pie, & Sweet Potato Pie have the same lush coat. Their coats feel wonderful to touch & pet, but it’s important to know that these coats will require regular grooming & care. Just because they look like super models with staff to take care of their every need, they are curious, adventurous herding dog pups that are going to get dirty & wet. Fruitcake is a fun-loving, silly, rough-&-tumble fellow, who decides quickly you are his new best friend, & he’s ready to rumble & tug & play with you immediately. And even though he can be goofy & silly, he is smart & keen to learn & will need his new best friend to tend to that need.
Adopted. PUMPKIN PIE (F) has the most delicate in features, looking a lot like Mama Peach Pie’s mini-me. She is a little more serious at first blush, watching the scene around her before deciding how & with whom she wants to join. She is not fearful by any means, but she considers her options. You can see the wheels of her brain turning. And she often shows a noticeable border collie “eye,” This little one is going to be rewarding to train because she seems to want to have something purposeful to do & with her person. She is a little, but only a little, less interested in playing with the pack.
Adopted. SWEET POTATO PIE (F) is the female version of Fruitcake. These two are difficult to tell apart in all ways. Sweet Potato loves to play with her littermates as well as foster mom & human guests. While she is a true herding dog puppy, Sweet Potato is in the middle of the litter in every way. She joins the fun, but doesn’t start it, & when she’s had enough fun & games, she flips her off-switch, & flops down like a rag doll. You can find her sleeping on stuffed animals rather than beds, sometimes in the tunnel, or in your lap.
Adopted. SHEPHERD’S PIE (M), AKA Shep, has a lovely, easy-to-care-for black & white smooth coat & classic border collie markings. We’re not sure what his ears are going to do, but we’re sure they’ll be spectacular. Shep & his sister Buttermilk can often be found on the opposite ends of a toy or curled up together in a bed. Both of them can be found going through a puppy tunnel or climbing under & over furniture or into someone’s lap.
Adopted. BUTTERMILK PIE (F) also has a lovely, easy-to-care-for black & white smooth coat, classic border collie markings, & ears that defy predictions. Buttermilk is a curious & adventurous girl, who likes to take in her surroundings & then join in whatever fun she finds around her. She was the first puppy to go through the puppy tunnel without hesitation. She especially likes to be where her person or people are.
