ADOPTED – ORION
Male, 1 year, 45 lbs
Male, 1 year, 45 lbs
Orion is a tri-colored black, white, and copper smooth coat border collie cross weighing 45 pounds and standing about 21” at the shoulder. He is believed to be about one year old. Orion is a well-balanced boy with brown, inquisitive, and curious eyes. He listens and tilts his head as if to ask what you want, to understand, and to please you however he can.
Orion is energetic, and very curious. He happily explores the yard on his own, and then mostly stays close to his humans when outside. Orion is playful with his canine foster brother. He would probably be happy with another dog in his adoptive home, but would be just, as if not more happy to have his human family all to himself.
Orion desires a family who will spend time with him and train him to his full potential, and who has positive reinforcement training experience. Prior to coming into rescue, he obviously had no training whatsoever, so he wasn’t sure what was expected of him. He is not a fearful dog, but he is a soft dog, and will want to know he’s doing the right thing. He has learned very quickly to walk calmly and quiet on a loose leash. His recall is 98% solid with distractions. On off leash recall in the yard, Orion will jump or bound over any obstacle to get to you. During training sessions, Orion is attentive, alert, and focused. He is learning to “sit”, “down,” and “wait.” His training sessions are short and several times a day with positive praise, reinforcement, and food treat reward. Orion is extremely food motivated. He has not yet learned the to play with toys, but with training and encouragement, he’ll learn quickly. With his calm leash manners, Orion could become a wonderful jogging or hiking partner. He tries very hard to please and might be a splendid agility dog with his speed and athleticism.
Orion does very well in his crate. He has not had any accidents in the house or in his crate. Orion sleeps soundly and quietly in his crate through the night. When let outside, Orion learned very quickly to relieve himself on command with positive reinforcement (and a food treat;). In foster care, Orion has not been left to run free unsupervised in the house. He is very content in his crate for down time, to eat, and to sleep. With proper planning, Orion travels well in a crate when riding in the car.
He has shown no interest in squirrels or cats. He is not comfortable with barking small “yappy” dogs. Orion has not been exposed to babies, toddlers, or small children.
Orion is looking for an active family who will include him in ALL their activities, and who will support and train him to become the very best dog he can be. Orion must have a “job”. He has an inquisitive active mind that should be stimulated with a purpose, games, and tasks.
ORION is micro-chipped, neutered, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations.
