RIN
Meet RIN, a 47 pound medium coat beautifully marked boy who is everyone’s friend and your adored companion. RIN is approximately 1.5 years old and has a playful, joyful personality. He is very social and loves to play with other dogs, running and leaping about the yard in a good game of tag, or gently wrestling with a dog buddy on the floor or the couch.
RIN is a very tactile boy and uses his feet to communicate (e.g. I want to go out! Or let’s play!) but has learned to curb his enthusiasm and be a bit more gentle as he engages with dogs, cats and humans. He is also smart and understands what you ask of him, although if you sound a bit miffed, he will stand back and not want to approach. We’re assuming this served him well in his pre-rescue environment, but we’re working on showing RIN that he has nothing to fear, even when we sound a bit stern. Additional training and love from you will help RIN become the best dog he can be.
RIN is a dog that wants to be near you or touching you all through the day. If he is on the couch next to you, he will look up and stare with adoring eyes – completely endearing. If you are sitting at the dining room table, he is not far from your feet, or is laying on your feet. If you are in your office, he wants to be curled up next to you. RIN is crate trained but we use the crate sparingly, for example, when we go do errands or when he sleeps at night (next to the bed, in eye shot of his humans). It’s not his favorite place to be, but he tolerates it and is always happy to see your return.
RIN recently completed Heartworm treatment and has tested HW negative (8/26/24). With his energy and youth, we were worried that two months of very limited movement would be difficult, but he understood his situation and adapted to only pottying on leash, no physical activity, and staying quiet as his body recovered from the treatment. RIN can now have low to moderate physical activity through the end of September, and then can resume his boisterous, joyful life.
RIN is housebroken and will only have an accident when you aren’t hearing his message of “I want to go out!” A single bark, standing near you and staring, and/or placing his feet on you are all communications to let you know what he needs. We take him outside about every two-three hours to potty during the day, but occasionally he needs to get up in the night to relieve himself.
RIN is happiest when he has a dog buddy who likes to play. His foster home has a NCBCRA foster puppy (Jagger) who is a ‘Mini Me’ of Rin, and a visiting Chihuahua mix rescue dog (about 1/3 of Rin’s size). These Three Musketeers are very happy playmates. There are also two visiting cats in Rin’s foster home. RIN is interested in the cats but treats them kindly. RIN loves his foster family’s five-year-old granddaughter, who keeps the dogs busy with toys and games. At the veterinarian’s office, RIN loved being the center of attention by all the staff. He is interested in anyone who can be a potential play mate!
RIN is up to date on vaccines, wormed, and microchipped. He is also on flea & tick and heartworm prevention. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoption Application and wish to enquire about RIN please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org.
