ADOPTED – ROWAN
Female, 1 Year, 28 lbs.
Female, 1 Year, 28 lbs.
As her name defines her, “ROWAN” is a “Little Redhead.” a red and white rough-coated border collie weighing a mere 28 pounds and standing about 19” at the shoulder. She is believed to be about one year old. Rowan is a wonderful, well-balanced little girl with brown inquisitive and curious eyes. She listens and thinks as she looks into you. Rowan is also fun, energetic, and very curious. She loves to explore the yard on her own, and mostly stays close to her humans when outside. Rowan is both agile and athletic. She will run and turn on a dime, then stop and look at you, as if to check in.
ROWAN desires a family who will spend time with her and train her to her true potential. She learned very quickly to walk on leash, and her recall is 95% solid without distractions. On off- leash recall in the yard, Rowan will jump or bound over any obstacle to get to you. Whether during training or play, Rowan is “full speed,” and there is no slow down or halfway. She is learning to retrieve a ball (currently using a long line). In training, she is learning to “sit” and “wait.” Her training sessions are short and several times a day with positive praise, reinforcement, and food treat reward. Rowan is also toy-motivated and loves to tug. She enjoys playing with a herding ball. Rowan could be a wonderful jogging or hiking partner. She might also be a splendid agility or flyball dog; she is fast, agile, and learns very quickly.
In foster care, ROWAN has not been left to run free unsupervised in the house. She has not had any accidents in the house or in her crate. When let outside, Rowan learned very quickly to relieve herself on command with positive reinforcement. She does well in her crate, content in her crate for down time, to eat, and to sleep. Rowan sleeps soundly and quietly in her crate through the night. With proper planning, Rowan travels well in a crate when riding in the car.
Rowan is playful with her canine foster brother. She has shown no interest in squirrels or cats. Rowan has not been exposed to babies, toddlers, or small children.
ROWAN is looking for a “Sport Dog” and / or active family who will include her in ALL their activities, and who will support and train her to become the very best dog she can be. Rowan must have some equivalent of a job. She has an inquisitive active mind that should be stimulated. Dogs with Rowan’s potential and affectionate attitude are few and far between. We think Rowan is a very special little redhead girl.
