ADOPTED TOBY

Male, 10 months, 50 lbs

Toby is a 10-month-old border collie/Australian shepherd mix, who is as gorgeous on the inside as he is on the outside.  Toby a a fun-loving boy, who enjoys the company of people & dogs alike.  While he hasn’t lived with a cat since he’s been in rescue, we see no reason that he wouldn’t be lovely & playful with a cat, wanting to befriend it. Toby is smart as a whip & learns quickly.   He stops at the gate & door & waits for his release word.  He sits on command.  And he is crate-trained & housebroken.  He also loads up & rides in the car happily.  He is both treat & toy-motivated. That said, he is a rowdy puppy, who loves to chew & to put his big puppy paws on the counter.  We’re working on these things.
Toby is also a special needs puppy & will need a special home.  Toby has a cleft palate.  He has no symptoms or complications from this condition, & he manages it beautifully.  If you met him, you would never know he has anything wrong with him.  He can eat & drink & play normally.  He has had consults with several vets & with the specialists at UC Davis Small Animal Veterinary Clinic.  Surgery was one option for him, but an option that was not without risk; it involved some resulting impairment & no certain outcome.  It also would mean a grueling, many month recovery that could be detrimental for him emotionally & socially.  We elected not to pursue it.  What does this mean for Toby’s future?  All of the vets he’s seen are utterly amazed at how well he gets along; it’s truly unbelievable.  So, it’s possible he will continue in this way.  It’s also possible he will have medical challenges down the road.  If you think you might be Toby’s forever home, we’re happy to talk with you about what those challenges might be.

TOBY is  micro-chipped, neutered, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application and wish to enquire about TOBY, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.

TOBY is being fostered north of Sacramento.
