ADOPTED – ZIP

Female – 1 year – 29 lbs

ZIP JAN 2025

LITTLE ZIP is a playful, joyful sprite of a girl.  A year old and weighing 29 pounds, Zip likes people, greeting them happily, playing with them, and snuggling in an available lap, whenever she has the chance. (See the photo with her foster dad.  She thinks he’s pretty special.)  She also likes other dogs, large and small.  When a little dog came to visit, Zippy let the little dog roll her over on her back, and she adjusted her play style to fit the style of the little dog.

ZIP is learning to play with toys, but there are a lot of distractions—dogs, chickens, cats, donkeys—for her in her foster home.  (She will watch the other animals with keen, border collie “herdy” attention, unless she is redirected, and she can be.  Unless she’s going to be herding them, she would probably do best in a home without other animals, especially chickens.) When she’s by herself, she seeks out toys, and will even play with them on her own. (When the other dog in her foster home is around, he takes the toys!)  The same is true for treats.  Zip is interested in learning, and her foster mom says that “she’s a thinker.”  She has a good mind and heart and wants to learn what is expected of her and to do the right thing.  In other words, she has good training potential, and the typical border collie need for purpose, direction, and mental stimulation.  She needs to know what someone wants from her and then she’s happy to do it.  She is working on her recall and has a good “leave it” command.  Zippy has not had an accident since she’s been in her foster home, and she is crate-trained.

ZIP is wickedly fast and very agile, a real athlete.  With those gifts and her smaller size, she has potential to be a good prospect to learn and excel in dog sports like agility, flyball, herding, nosework, etc.  She likes to show off her border collie eye and natural drop when someone’s around to see her do it!  She is confident when she knows what is expected of her.  Zip is looking for a home with border collie experience, one that will make sure she has outlet for her energy level, athleticism, and need for some equivalent of “work,” (even if it’s just for fun).  One that will train her to her potential and one that will make sure she knows when she’s doing the right thing.  And when it’s time to relax, one that will offer her a lap to snuggle in!

ZIP is micro-chipped, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about ZIP, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org.
