Female, 6-8 years, 32 lbs.
Say hello to FRAZZLE, a 6-8-year-old sprite of a girlie, who at 32# is small enough to pack around. Don’t let FRAZZLE’s “middle age” fool you: she is quite energetic, prancing when she runs and loving no activities more than playing fetch and tug-of-war.
FRAZZLE loves toys; her balls and her rubber bone are top two choices. She can entertain herself with them on her own, but also likes to play with her people. FRAZZLE also loves to explore the backyard on her own or with her foster family. She will take herself for long, roaming adventures around the farm, coming when she’s called, even if reluctantly. While she loves play, running, and adventuring, FRAZZLE easily settles down for a nap after activity, and returning home after being away is truly her favorite thing!
FRAZZLE loves being near her people, even sleeping at their feet or next to their bed. While she isn’t a snuggler, she cheerfully accepts all the pets she can get. She greets visitors/new people with a wagging tail and a meek approach. She has good manners with visitors, refraining from jumping up. She occasionally will bark at a new person, if she gets excited, but hers is a happy bark of welcome, not one of warning or protection.
FRAZZLE wants to play with the other dogs in her pack, but her play style is excitable and can be annoying to them: trying to steal their toys, playfully growling, barking, and jumping around. While she likes and wants to engage with other dogs, she might do best in a single dog home or with a very tolerant, similarly engaged dog. FRAZZLE chases cats she sees outside. She knows the word “no” and mainly obeys when she hears it, so she might be able to be trained not to chase a cat in the house. To be safe, she would probably do best in a home without cats. FRAZZLE has not been exposed to children in her foster home.
FRAZZLE can be crated, but she doesn’t like to be. Her foster family doesn’t crate her when they go away or at night, and she’s perfectly fine. She’s housebroken and doesn’t get into anything. She has nice house manners. FRAZZLE is a biddable dog, but she still has things to learn; for instance, not pulling when she is asked to walk on a leash or barking in excitement.
FRAZZLE has a somewhat comical gait. And it certainly does not impinge on her activity and mobility; she can run, climb, etc. and for as long as she wants. She is not as crazy active as a typical working border collie—which for some folks would be a plus–nor is she a candidate for long bouts of forced exercise like running next to a bike or many-mile leashed hikes. That said, she can do anything an active companion dog can do.
