Female, 7 Months 38 lbs.
JANET is a seven-month-old, smooth-coated border collie cross, who weighs in at 38 pounds and stands about 24” at the shoulder. She is a well-balanced girl with inquisitive and curious brown eyes. She has a true black and white coat and freckles on her legs.
JANET is goofy, fun, energetic, and very curious. She loves to explore the yard on her own, and mostly stays close to her humans when outside. Both agile and athletic, she will run and turn on a dime, then stop, crouch, and look at you. If she hears no command or gets no response, she will continue to run and play on her own.
JANET is the kind of border collie pup that is always asking: “Now what do you what me to do?” Whether during training or play, Janet is FULL SPEED with no slow down or halfway. She needs an adoptive family who will spend 90% of their time with her and that will find activities to stimulate her brain and challenge her to think. While Janet could be a wonderful jogging or hiking partner, she might also be a splendid agility dog; she is fast, agile, and learns very quickly.
JANET learned very quickly to walk on leash, and her recall is 95% solid, even with distractions. On recall, Janet will run full speed, jump or bound over any obstacle to get to you. Janet is also learning to “sit,” “wait,” and “down.” Her training sessions are short and several times a day with positive reinforcement and food treat reward. Currently, she is not overly toy-motivated, but she is learning to tug and chase the flirt pole with her foster dad. If she is not doing something with her person or supervised, Janet has learned that her crate is a place where she is “off duty” and where she can rest and relax. She would also benefit from learning how to settle and calm herself, that sometimes “doing nothing” is a good job.
JANET does extremely well in her plastic XL dog crate. While in foster care, she has not had any accidents in the house or in her crate. Janet sleeps soundly and quietly in her crate through the night; is content in her crate for down time; takes her meals in her crate; and travels very well in a crate when riding in the car. When let outside, Janet will relieve herself on command with positive reinforcement and a food treat reward. In foster care, Janet has not been left to run free unsupervised in the house. Janet tolerates head-to-toe handling, even cooperating for nail trims. Another plus is that she is already spayed.
JANET is very playful with her foster brother. During “free time” with her foster brother, Janet knows how to throw her weight around, yet has not displayed any aggression. She has shown no interest in squirrels or cats. Janet has not been exposed to babies, toddlers, or small children.
JANET is looking for an active, full-time family who will include her in ALL their activities, and who will spend time with her and train her to reach her true potential. She wants a family who enjoys training, especially rocket fast, smart, busy young border collies.
