LOKI

Male, 4 years, 40 lbs

Loki Available

Introducing our foster dog LOKI. Our vet thinks he is about 4-years-old, although you’d think he was still a pup by the way he acts.  He weighs a lean & healthy 40 lbs. & sports a gorgeous short, easy-care, minimum-shed coat.

This boy will steal your heart with his affectionate nature. LOKI absolutely thrives on physical touch.  He can take all the lovin’ you can dish out to him: pets, belly rubs, etc. And he will give back your attention tenfold.

LOKI is just an all-around great dog! He gets along well with other dogs, big or small, & there’s no worry about his socialization because he loves everybody he meets. (Well, we don’t know about cats!)  He is known to wrap his “arms” around your legs & hug you. He doesn’t jump up on you like some dogs tend to do.

LOKI has the border collie herding instinct, & in his foster home he will herd his foster sister around relentlessly. He might do well in an environment where he can be trained to herd sheep. Because of his energy level, he will need a home that will provide lots of physical & mental stimulation & activity.

LOKI loves to play.  One of his favorite games is playing fetch with a tennis ball. He will bring the ball back, but he is still learning to “drop it.”  It’s almost like he is teasing you to get it from him.  You may want to make sure car doors are closed when LOKI is around because this boy is bonkers about car rides. He will eagerly jump in, hoping to go for a ride, & he is a great traveler. The good news is that even though LOKI can be very active, he will settle right down, if needed, at home or in the car.

LOKI hardly ever barks, even when his foster siblings bark.  He is housebroken & crate trained, & he will sleep quietly through the night in his crate (but prefers your bed, if allowed).  LOKI also prefers to be with his person most of the time. He wants to have a job or just be part of the activities. He would not do well left to entertain himself for long periods of time.

We think, with the proper training, LOKI would enjoy herding or even one of the popular dog sports like agility, nose work, etc. Training is fun with him because he is very food/treat motivated; he will even work for ice cubes.  LOKI’S recall is still a work-in-progress, but he is doing very well & mostly comes when his foster mom calls. He will need continued work on leash training, even though he really doesn’t pull hard right now.  Loki can be sensitive to a harsh voice, so calm, firm direction works best with this boy.

Since LOKI still needs guidance & continued training, we would like to place him in a forever home with an experienced owner who has the time & patience to bring out his best & help him develop to his full potential, someone who understands the needs of a young border collie for attention, direction, stimulation, and exercise.

LOKI is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about LOKI, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you do not have an approved application, or it has been over a year since applying, please fill out a new application here Adoption Application.

LOKI is being fostered in Nevada City, Nevada County, CA.
