Male, 2 years, 40 lbs
Meet Louie! This 2-year-old boy is 40 pounds of gorgeous. He has the softest, most beautiful blue merle coat with little bits of tan mixed in. Not only is Louie handsome, he’s also a lover. Louie absolutely loves people. He loves to follow his people around, stop in front of them to gets pets, and touch them as often as he can. He is a true Velcro border collie. He wiggles his way into the hearts of every person he meets, and when he’s really comfortable with someone, he likes to sit on their feet. This is Louie’s version of a gentle hug.
Louie smiles when he’s excited or when he’s nervous. When he first arrived in his foster home, it took him about two days to settle in and find a routine. Now he loves his routines. His favorite thing to do is to find a warm spot in the sun and nap after a few bursts of energy here and there. He absolutely adores laying on the human beds, doing happy rolls, and nesting the blankets. So, Louie is looking for a home that is okay with him being on the couch and the bed. It truly brings him so much joy, and these are his favorite places to cuddle.
Louie has a medium energy level, by border collie standards. Even though Louie loves his relaxation, he also enjoys a good adventure. He is down to do anything with his person. He loves hiking, and he is very good on a leash and harness with only some minor pulling. He is unafraid of water crossings, bridges, and water, and he LOVES the snow. Louie will make a very good adventure dog. He rides extremely well in a car and usually falls asleep as soon as you start driving. He has no motion sickness issues and is fine riding in a crate or a back seat hammock.
Louie is still learning what toys are. He doesn’t seem too interested in games like fetch or tug and will only occasionally engage in games with his foster siblings. He lives with male and female foster border collies and gets along great with them, but it wasn’t a love-at-first-sight situation. While he generally gets along very well with other dogs, he needs slower introductions, some space, and to be off leash at first to get comfortable. Louie could do well in a home with another dog or with siblings, but having another dog is not a must for him. He has not been tested with cats.
Louie is potty-trained and crate-trained, and he is very well-behaved in his crate. He loves treats and food, and he learned to “sit” in a finger snap. Continuing his training will be easy because he is super food-motivated, and he has a nice desire to please. He is a huge fan of beef lung treats; they are his favorite. Just be careful: he has been known on occasion to put his paws up on the counter to help himself to more, but he’s working hard on being patient and waiting for his treat to be offered. Louie likes to watch cars. In true border collie fashion, he is also very interested in people, bikes, and dogs going by, and he will occasionally react to them. The good news is that he is very easily redirected. Louie is very willing to learn.
Louie is already a fantastic dog with a heart of gold, and with some time, training, and love, he is going to be the absolute best! He has been a joy to foster, and whoever adopts Louie will be winning the lottery!
