MIYA

Female, 35lb, 3 years

Miya1

Meet little Miss MIYA! She is a 35lb, 3yr-old, female border collie. She has a lovely, soft, medium length, easy care coat and a sweet and sunny disposition. MIYA loves everyone she meets, people and dogs alike. She greets everyone with a wag and a smile. MIYA gets along great with her foster pack, so much so that her foster mom is looking for a home for her with a companion dog. She can get a little anxious when being left alone and does much better if she has a buddy to hang out with. MIYA also gets along fine with the resident dog savvy cat. She does like to chase birds and squirrels.

MIYA’s favorite thing is to be with her person. Followed closely by playtime with her foster pack and carrying plush toys around the house. She also loves to fetch the plush toy and bring it back to you. She has not shown any interest in a ball. MIYA takes treats gently and is equally treat/praise motivated. She responds well to direction as long as its calm direction. With loud voices, she may withdraw slightly so gentle direction is best. She is not afraid of the vacuum, moving cars or loud trucks on the street.

MIYA walks really well on leash, especially when there is another dog walking with her. She has a solid sit and is learning to wait at the door. She is fully potty trained and uses the doggy door to go outside to do her business. She rides easily in the car with no motion sickness and will hop right in when its time to go for an adventure. She has gone on high Sierra hikes and was easy to walk with on the trail. Her recall needs some work, so she has not been hiking off-leash. At the lake, she will go in the water up to her chest and then she says, that’s enough for me and won’t try to swim. With proper encouragement, she may end up being a swimmer. She has also taken a trip to Lowe’s and was confident and curious.

MIYA is a very sweet and cuddly girl. She will lay at your feet, or cuddle on the couch with her head in your lap. She needs to be in a home where her people are home most of the time, or possibly go to a doggy daycare if her people are going to be away for more than half a day. She has the run of the house when her people are at home. When her people are away, her foster confines her to one section of the house. At night she sleeps on a dog bed in the bedroom. She will sleep in a crate at night if asked to do so, but she does fine outside the crate too.

MIYA is a medium energy girl who needs regular exercise and playtime, but she also has a great off switch. Especially if it means she gets to cuddle on the couch with you. MIYA does not show signs of being a great sports dog, but she would make an amazing running/hiking/adventure dog.

Overall, she is almost the perfect dog. Easy, soft, sweet and friendly to everyone. She just needs someone to call her own. If you have a companion dog, are an active family, and are ready for some extra doses of sweetness in your life then she is the dog for you.

MIYA is microchipped, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about MIYA, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you do not have an approved application, or it has been over a year since applying, please fill out a new application here Adoption Application.

MIYA is being fostered in Folsom, CA.
