Banks: age 6, 35 pounds, male, neutered. Up to date on all vaccines, and microchipped.

Banks is a high energy, lovable, 3-legged Border/Heeler mix. He loves people, other dogs, and he LOVES balls. He is an expert at catch, loves to run, and loves to cuddle with his humans. When Banks was a year old, he lost one of his rear legs to an accident. However, it did not slow him down or dampen his spirits. All of these amazing qualities also make it extremely hard for him to live in our family home with our young child. We are now expecting our second child, and we cannot keep up with his needs. We want to find him a forever home where he can get plenty of exercise and be happy and cared for properly.

Banks has been professionally trained and knows sit, down, stay, come, heel, fetch, place, and leave it. I’ve also trained him to fetch the paper, go to his crate (“good night”) and shake (after a bath). He is an incredibly smart and obedient dog, and eager to please. He is crate trained and sleeps in a crate every night. He probably needs close to 1-2 hours of high-energy exercise per day, minimum. He will play fetch for hours, which makes his exercise requirements easier to accomplish. However, he is not suited to staying indoors for long periods of time, especially unaccompanied. He would be an incredible candidate for a working/rescue dog.

He is generally good with other dogs and adults, although recently he has started becoming a little aggressive with our other dog around food (resource guarding). He has also been prone to escalating to a bite if he feels in danger, although he has never caused bleeding. Specifically, he has growled and bit when someone is brushing the stump of where his amputated leg used to be. This unpredictable escalation is why we recommend an experienced adult handler and no children in the house.

Here are some elements of a great forever home for Banks:
– No young children
– Access to a large outdoor space
– A dedicated adult(s) that can maintain his training and exercise (no adults with traditional jobs where Banks would have extended time alone)
– Someone with experience with Border Heelers or other working dogs
