Female, 6 – 9 months, 35 lbs
Let me introduce to you our sweet ELLA, (aka: ELLA ENCHANTED). ELLA is a petite, young female border collie 6 – 9 months of age who weighs in at about 35 lbs. She has a medium length tri-colored (Black, White, Tan) coat and a very expressive face with big brown eyes. This darling girl is looking for someone who will love her, give her a home she can call her own, and continue to introduce her to our world. ELLA, in turn, will be a loyal companion who will give love back unconditionally.
ELLA came into rescue with an open heart and a willingness to learn; in fact, she seems eager to learn. She may be a little shy when meeting new people. With patience and letting her come to us on her own terms, we have found that her basic temperament is nothing but friendly. She doesn’t seem to have an aggressive bone in her body. ELLA is a sensitive girl, so with a soft voice, a little time, and some confidence-building ELLA has blossomed and will blossom even more once she finds her forever home.
ELLA knows her name and is quick to respond when called. She loves to be near you, relaxing at your feet as much as she loves playing. ELLA will sit on command and stare at you with those big brown eyes, just waiting to see what you want her to do. In her foster home, ELLA loves to run, chase, and play with her foster siblings. She does seem to have some herding instinct, so caution with small children is advised. She is easily called off if she gets too rough or her playmate doesn’t want to play. She definitely knows what “NO” means. She has also learned “drop / leave it” and “sit,” and is learning a solid “stay.” All in all, she responds well to commands.
Being a young border collie, ELLA has a lot of energy. She does have an “off” button though and readily settles down in the house if necessary. A sibling who has the same energy level (to keep up with hers) would be wonderful. ELLA gets along well with other dogs. We do not know how she would be around cats. She would do well as an only dog, provided she has an owner who is dedicated to giving her the physical and mental stimulation she needs to be happy and thrive. Since ELLA is fast and seems eager to learn we think she might enjoy some of the dog sports. She would also make a great running partner.
ELLA is housebroken, but taking her out on a regular basis while she adjusts to the transition will reinforce this behavior. She does not pull on her leash when walking, but additional training will benefit her. ELLA is crate-trained and sleeps quietly through the night.
Give ELLA the loving forever home, lots of love, and plenty of patience and time to adjust, and she will become an awesome addition to your family.
