ADOPTED Mattie

Female, 3 yrs, 28 lbs

MATTIE FEB 2020

MATTIE is a smallish (appx 28 lbs), easygoing gal, sweet and lovely, and ready to start life in her forever home. This 3-year-old rough coat can often be found close to her foster mom’s chair, enjoying a quiet spot in her rural foster home. When she is not near mom, she may have headed out via the doggy door to enjoy the yard. She could be wandering alone, or hanging with her sister Trudy, or playing with her foster brothers and sisters. Other times she’ll just hang in her crate, door opened, while feeling safe and secure.

MATTIE and her sister Trudy (also available and very similar) came from a place where there were lots of dogs and minimal human interaction. This may be why she likes her crate a little too much at times. MATTIE is likely to retreat to her crate if things get too loud or exciting. She is learning to trust her human foster family and will seek out love, attention and being petted. MATTIE is not 100% house-trained but is getting there. Training her to use the doggy door, and insuring she goes out regularly has helped minimize accidents in the house.

MATTIE really enjoys playing with the other dogs in the house and may also benefit from having other dogs with which to pal around and show her the ropes. MATTIE sleeps quietly in her crate through the night, unless the cats are playing in the area. She will bark at them and even fixate a bit. It’s nothing dangerous but dog savvy cats or a supervised situation may be best.

With positive reinforcement, a calming demeanor and lots of love, MATTIE has made great strides. She needs to be crated or in a safe place when left alone when her family is away, as she can “find things to do,” much like a puppy that doesn’t know better. She would like her family to be quiet, gentle people, and perhaps people with experience with training and socializing. Her foster family, their visitors and the person who watches her foster family’s dogs when they are away all came away with that same conclusion: a calm, patient and loving family will make MATTIE the very best girl she can be.

MATTIE is  micro-chipped, spayed, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application and wish to enquire about MATTIE, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.

MATTIE  is being fostered Brownsville in Yuba County, CA.
