Meet Sampson: A Homeless Dog’s Journey
In July 2025, Sampson’s owner, facing homelessness, surrendered him to me for his well-being. I’m providing a temporary home for Sampson, and he is thriving with my pack as he looks for a permanent home. He is a petite 29lb border collie mix, about 2-3 years old.
Sampson is an affectionate, intelligent, and resilient dog who gets along well with people and other dogs. He learns commands quickly and is gentle with children and newcomers. Due to his strong prey drive, he should be placed in a home without cats or small animals. Sampson adapts well to family routines, patiently waits for meals, enjoys outings, and stays alert to his environment. Everyone who has met Sampson says the same thing, “What a nice dog!”
Sampson’s adjustment came with some challenges—he arrived without structure, didn’t know his name, reacted to overstimulation, and was unsettled by thunderstorms. Still, he quickly adapted: he stays calm alone when his caregiver works and doesn’t bark or make a mess. His progress highlights both his resilience and the positive influence of foster care.
Sampson starts his day with a walk in the neighborhood or park, followed by breakfast at home. Afternoons are spent playing with toys, relaxing in the sun, and training, often with his foster brother Java. Evenings focus on family time and a quiet dinner, after which Sampson settles into bed—either his own or occasionally mine.
Sampson will thrive in a home with a family who values gentle guidance and routine, and who will appreciate his goofy disposition. A calm environment would suit him best, with a yard to explore and a sunny window for birdwatching.
Sampson is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. He is house-trained and accustomed to basic commands. While he does not require constant attention, he flourishes with regular companionship and affection.
Sampson’s journey is about hope and connection. He’s ready for adoption and will be a loyal, joyful companion to his future family. Sampson shows that every dog deserves a chance, and every home can become a sanctuary.
Feel free to reach out to meet Sampson or ask questions! He’s looking forward to meeting his forever family!
