Adopted – SHELBY

Female, 1 year, 35 lbs

SHELBY ARP 2021

Adopted

This adorable little 1 year old Border collie is not only a beautiful dog, she is about 35 lbs of puppy energy, goofiness and playfulness! She has a lot of young energy so she will need an active person who will give her the exercise she needs to help her thrive.

SHELBY loves attention from people but she is still a little anxious with the hustle and bustle of the world around her. Slowly exposing her to different “worldly” adventures will help her overcome this. She is friendly with other dogs but needs to be introduced to one dog at a time. Too many dogs all at once overwhelm her. SHELBY has a submissive demeanor, deferring to more assertive dogs. She is a sensitive girl who responds well to a soft voice.

SHELBY came into rescue as another “lost soul.” She has a naturally friendly temperament towards people but takes a few minutes to warm up to strangers. In her foster home SHELBY is learning manners and some basic obedience.  She knows to sit to get attention and she will willingly go to bed (crate) at bedtime. She is also learning to wait her turn in the pecking order of her foster pack mates to get a treat.  SHELBY is food & treat motivated which should make training fun. At this young age her attention span is short so we keep training sessions about 5 minutes long several times a day which seems to work for her.

This sweet girl looks forward to long walks and she rides well in the car in her crate. Shelby would probably prefer to be your copilot to make sure you’re going the right way….that’s a Border collie for ya. With nose to the ground she explores everything in her path. She loves to run and play by herself or with a buddy.  If no one wants to play with her she will pick up a toy and toss it into the air again and again. It’s so adorable to watch her puppy playfulness.

SHELBY is very active outside but calm indoors where she will cuddle or lay by your side. She is very affectionate and loves to be with her human. As you can see SHELBY is a stunningly beautiful Border collie. We are looking for someone who will not only appreciate her beauty but also stay dedicated to continuing the work we have started. If you have that time and patience to bring out her full potential and allow her to thrive then we would be happy to talk with you.

SHELBY is micro-chipped, spayed, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application and wish to inquire about SHELBY, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.

SHELBY is being fostered in Nevada City in Nevada County, CA.
