GARNET

Female, 4-1/2 months, 30 lbs

GARNET is a 30 pound, fiery-red 4.5-month-old beauty. She is loving, playful, and enthusiastic, a “pretty lovely” combination according to her foster mom. GARNET is social and seeks attention. She doesn’t want to miss out on anything, but she also likes people contact, sometimes stopping for a minute to lean into her person. GARNET is not at all shy; in fact, nothing scares her or puts her off. She is curious about everything and everyone and likes attention, allowing all handling, even at the vet’s office.

GARNET loves to run more than anything, and she loves and needs a lot of mental stimulation every day. She will chase toys and is not territorial with them, but she is still working on bringing them back. She enjoys tugging with her people, but activities that involve movement are her favorites. GARNET loves water (the hose, puddles, ponds, pools) and has recently discovered how fun swimming can be. She’s beginning to learn to retrieve a ball in the pool. (Dock-diving dog?). With her smarts, athleticism, and stamina, we think she would enjoy training in any dog sports. GARNET loves the dogs, large and small, in her foster home. She takes direction from other dogs well and tries to adjust her play style to fit the play style of the other dogs. Sometimes she plays a bit rough with the little dogs, but she never hurts them. The chickens in GARNET’S foster home are confined, and she shows curiosity about them. GARNET is much too keen about cats, so we won’t place her in a home with cats.

GARNET is smart as a whip and is a fast learner. She has learned to sit, take direction to stop an unwanted behavior, go right into her crate and wait to leave her crate; and walk on a leash (on a flat collar). She is treat-motivated, which should make further training easier. She is sometimes stimulated by noisy cars, trucks, and trains going by, choosing to run the fence line, so a home that isn’t in a high traffic area would be ideal for discouraging this behavior. Puppy GARNET sometimes likes to help her foster mom “garden,” uprooting and chewing plants, but she doesn’t chew bedding or anything else she shouldn’t. She can be a little “barky” when excited over other dogs playing, and she talks like “Scooby-doo” to her foster mom when she’s asked to stop. Her foster mom admits to finding this adorable! GARNET rides well crated in the car. She is completely crate-trained and has not had an accident in her foster home.

GARNET would thrive in a home with a very active person who enjoys training, who would spend a lot of time doing things with her, and who would allow naps afterwards. Yes, our girl has an off switch and loves a nap! A home with another stable, active dog would be fine, but not in place of time and activity with her human family.

GARNET is started on her puppy vaccines, wormed, and microchipped. She is also on flea & tick and heartworm prevention. As a condition of puppy adoption, she will need to be spayed when she reaches approximately 6 months (specific time to be determined by your vet). In addition to the adoption fee, puppy adoption requires a $75 spay/neuter deposit. Upon our receiving the spay/neuter certificate from you, the deposit is refunded. .
