ADOPTED JACK

October 15, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

Meet 4-month-old JACK (of the Three’s Company litter; sisters Janet & Crissy are fostering with other families and will be available soon).  The smallest of the three pups at 20 pounds, Jack is a rowdy, fun-loving, energetic boy, who loves people and other dogs with equal enthusiasm.  Everyone and everything is his play pal.  He even finds or makes a party at the vet’s office (see photos). He is very photogenic with his North by Northeast ears highlighted in every picture.

ADOPTED MARGIE

October 9, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

MARGIE is a quiet, mature soul at only 2-years-old. She connects quickly to people, and her human is her emotional anchor. This 44-pound cuddlebug loves to be next to you, crawling in your lap, and flipping upside down for the occasional belly rub. Get up though and she is right with you, following along to see what you are up to. She is a lower energy border collie, content to curl up in her bed nearby while her foster mom works.

ADOPTED – PRESLEY

September 24, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

PRESLEY and his brother Jagger, the Rock and Roll Boys, were found as strays, brought into the shelter by a Good Samaritan, and from there it was on to NCBCRA. They are 4 1/2 month old smooth coat black and white Border collie, Queensland Heeler mixes. PRESLEY (26 lbs.) will tell you he’s the better looking of the two, but Jagger will tell you the same story. All we can tell you for sure is that it was time the brothers led their own separate lives, so PRESLEY wound up coming to Tehama County, while Jagger is fostered in Placer County. They have really flourished apart, and now they are ready for their forever homes.

PERKINS AVAILABLE

September 18, 2024/in Featured, Our Dogs

Hi, my name is Perkins – just call me Perk – and I am about 7 1/2 years young.  My Mom thinks I am a Border collie mixed with some type of guardian dog because I watch over my family and pack mates. I have notified them TWICE of rattlesnakes in our yard, barking loudly while keeping my pack mates at a safe distance away.  Mom says I am a hero dog, as we have little kids and lots of dogs in our yard that need protection from dangers like that.

ADOPTED – FLY

September 17, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

Meet FLY girl. FLY is a four-year-old, 35lb border collie mix with a medium length coat. She has attentive ears and kind eyes that never leave sight of her person. Despite being on the shy side, FLY has never met a human she does not love.

FLY has the quickest happy feet when bounding to greet her people and follows them absolutely everywhere. She will crawl up on your lap and melt into you for a pet. An ideal day for FLY looks a bit like this: a quick trip outside before breakfast, naps all day and short trips around the house to follow her people, maybe a jaunt outside, dinner, and a good sleep wherever she sees fit that night, whether that be her bed, your bed, or her crate.

In Memoriam SHEBA

September 14, 2024/in In Memoriam

???? IN MEMORIAM: SHEBA Adopted September 2015 – Passed 2024 ????

From SHEBA’s foster at time of posting 2015:

Here is a beautiful red and white, rough coat female, three years old, ready for her new home. SHEBA is playful, fun and energetic. She is housebroken (not one accident in her foster home) and crates easily for daytime rest periods and for sleeping quietly throughout the night. She LOVES to ride in the car…..did we mention how much she loves to go for a drive? SHEBA has attached herself to her foster parents and likes to hang out with us. While very affectionate, she is not obnoxious or pushy for attention. She loves to be petted (always down for a tummy rub) and in return will give nose snuffles. She is quite the cuddle aficionado. While she fancies herself a lap dog, she’s weighs about 55 pounds so discretion here is advised.

From SHEBA’s Dad Chris:

Sheba was loved by everyone she came into contact with. She was the door greeter, made sure everyone was good. Sheba loved going on car rides. She had the biggest smile on her face and she kept hitting you with her paw because she wanted you to hold her paw and she was thanking me for taking her on a ride. I moved out to Ohio, Sheba was in the front seat the whole time and she enjoyed that trip. When she got to her new house she was happy and felt at home and checked everything out.

She got me up in the morning so she could go outside and be in the yard. When it rained or snowed she come in happy and would jump on the foot stool to get her spa treatment of being dried off.

She was a cuddle bug and a love bug. She was very well loved. She did come back in a dream of mine and sat next to me and was happy with a big smile on her face and let me know she is with me always and that she is happy.

ADOPTED – KAI

September 3, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

Meet little 5 month old KAI who currently weighs in at 28lbs.  He’s a merle sable with the most gorgeous blue eyes. Kai has been in foster with a female Kelpie and has met many other dogs who he immediately loves.  He’s met children and thinks they are just grand.

KAI is medium drive with exceptional trainability as he just wants to please. He’d do well in a family and would excel as a nice training prospect for any one of the numerous dog sports like Agility or Treibball. He walks great on leash and picks up commands like the brilliant puppy he is. He learned the tug game quickly and is willing to “give” when the tug item becomes still.  Did I mention how much he wants to please?

ADOPTED – PENNY

August 29, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

Meet PENNY Lane, a 28-pound, one-year-old Border Collie who’s blossoming as she progresses through adolescence. Social and friendly, PENNY enjoys spending time with both people and other dogs, and she loves a good romp in the yard. With her strong herding instincts, PENNY will thrive best with an owner who has experience with Border Collies and understands their unique needs.

ADOPTED – LEAH

August 13, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

Meet Leah, a 4 1/2-month-old, tri-colored beauty, who is ready to take the world by storm. Leah is sweet and spirited, cuddly and crazy energetic, confident and social with everyone she meets and in every situation she’s encountered since we’ve known her. And she is smart as a whip. Quite simply, the world is Leah’s oyster.

ADOPTED – FIRESTONE

August 13, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

Hi. My name is FireStone! I’m a 6 month old Female BC/Aussie mix. I came to rescue with my siblings Toyo, Apollo, and Pirelli. We were found near a tire shop, so we were each named after a brand of tire. I’m mostly black with a white chest peppered with spots.  and a long tail. I’m a little on the small side, only 26 lbs, but foster mom says I have a big heart. I love to snuggle with the humans and give lots of kisses.

ADOPTED – APOLLO

July 25, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

Apollo has been a joy to foster over the past few weeks. Apollo loves people and does great when there are visitors at the house. He also plays well with the 3 other dogs at his foster home and is fine sharing food or toys. He sits to receive pets and is quickly learning multiple commands such as “wait,” “sit,” “crate,” “come,” and “get back.” He walks well on a leash most of the time, but can become distracted, so he will need some additional work on leash training. He is sometimes overstimulated by small dogs and would do best in a home without small dogs. He is interested in cats, but can be easily redirected so he would likely be OK with dog savvy cats. Apollo has shown some interest in balls and toys but is more interested in playing with his dog pals, swimming or interacting with his person.

KAMMIE AVAILABLE

July 22, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

Meet lovely KAMMIE. KAMMIE is a medium-rough coat, red and white border collie / Aussie mix, 2-3 years old. KAMMIE has medium to low drive, but her BC genes might become more pronounced with time as she’s had some adjusting to do. She is cautious around new people, especially men, but as time goes on, she warms up more quickly and becomes a love bug, giving kisses and begging for pets and attention. We’re considering KAMMIE a bit of a “special needs” foster as her new human(s) should expect a period of her developing comfort, confidence, and familiarity with her new environment. That said, KAMMIE has shown no signs of aggression, rarely barks, and will be a loving and loyal family member for the one who is patient to give her the time she needs to adjust and trust.

ADOPTED – PIRELLI

July 17, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

Meet our sweet girl, Pirelli. She is a 6-month-old 36#, BC/Aussie mix with very pretty tri-color markings, and a cute little bobbed tail. Pirelli came in as a stray who was picked up by animal control near a tire store with her 3 littermates, so they all got tire names: Pirelli, Toyo, Apollo and Firestone!

Pirelli’s favorite thing is her person. She wants to be near her person most of the time. A very close second favorite thing is her foster brothers and sisters. She gets along well with dogs of all sizes and loves to play and wrestle. She would do well with another dog also likes to play. She would also be fine as an only dog as long as she gets plenty of attention and exercise. Pirelli is a little bit curious about the cat in her foster home, but she does not chase and is respectful of the cat, so she would very likely be OK in a home with dog savvy cats.

ADOPTED – LYRA

June 5, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

Say hello to LYRA, a “purebred shrinky-dink” border collie mix. Little Lyra looks like all of the border collie girls her foster mom has raised through the years, only Lyra has obviously been shrink-wrapped. Full grown at 12-13 months, Lyra weighs in at around 13 pounds. She has a beautiful white and black rough coat with that easy-care-Teflon border collie hair; nothing sticks. An hour after getting dirty, she is brilliantly white again with no attention to her coat. That said, she loves a bath, and both loves and needs regular brushing.

ADOPTED – JACK

June 4, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

Meet Jack, an adorable black and white smooth coat border collie cross. Born on March 18th, he is now ten weeks old, and is eagerly ready to find his forever home. Jack is a wonderful, well-balanced little boy with dark, inquisitive eyes. He is always listening and thinking as he looks at you.

ADOPTED ROSIE

June 1, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

Say hello to our sweet ROSIE girl. ROSIE is a 2yr old, 36lb, female BC mix. She is the mamma dog of the Fluff and Ruff puppies (4 boys) that were recently adopted. She was a great mom to her pups, now it’s her turn to find her forever family.

ROSIE’S favorite thing is her person. She loves to follow you around the house, and seek out attention. She will gladly settle at your feet while you work, or snuggle on the couch. ROSIE also loves toys, and balls, and is very playful. She gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home, big and small. ROSIE is very cat curious, and while she does not try to hurt the cat in her foster home, she will chase so she needs a cat free home.

ADOPTED – MUSTARD

May 31, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

ADOPTION PENDING – MUSTARD is a black and white smooth coat border collie mix that weighs in at about 15 pounds. One of four brothers (two adopted), he is methodical in his approach. He wants to get the lay of the land before jumping in, but once he is confident you are good folk, he is all in. MUSTARD then wants all the attention. His happy place may just be out with his people playing and goofing around. Smart and observant, he is beginning to understand the commands “sit” and “crate.” He does well with his siblings and the adult dogs in the house. He mostly ignores our cats. He sometimes takes note of their presence but felines should not present a problem.

ADOPTED BUN

May 31, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

Meet BUN! BUN is a tri-colored, smooth coated border collie mix boy about 5 months of age, 26 pounds. One of four brothers (the other three doing very well in their new homes), BUN has really blossomed into a confident young boy. He is a delightful pup who loves nothing more than to hang with his hoomans and / or his doggy friends. His favorite place is on his foster mom’s lap while we are watching TV.

ADOPTED – CRUZ

May 4, 2024/in 2025, Alumni

Meet CRUZ, a handsome 4 ½ to 5-year-old, 40 pound, smooth-coated black-and-white boy with classic border collie markings. A sweet, happy boy, he immediately takes to people. In fact, his favorite place to be is with people. He needs nothing more than a human to pet him, and a lap in which to drop his head, to be content. He is comfortable and enjoys the outdoors, but CRUZ has a strong drive to be inside where he can be safe, warm (or cool), secure, and near his family.

ADOPTED – DOTTIE

April 22, 2024/in 2024, Alumni

DOTTIE is officially ready for and eager to find her forever home. Dottie is a loving, gentle girl, 3-years-and-9-month-old and weighing about 50 lbs. She has a black and white rough-coat with gorgeous markings. She is a very kind girl, who is social and well-mannered with all people, even young children. While Dottie does have a soft spot for and more likely to bond with men, she’d also do well with a female adopter.

And while we don’t want to dwell on the past, it is important to know that DOTTIE suffered an accident with a cow; as a result, she had to have her back left leg amputated. Happily, that event is behind her now; she has healed completely from her surgery and gets around very well. Everyone loves her at the clinic. When she arrived for her all-is-well exam, it was warm welcomes from everyone. She reciprocated, wagging her tail the whole time and confidently greeting all. She did always keep an eye on her foster mom to make sure she wasn’t being left behind. She is good on a leash for our vet visits, but around the yard she just follows and lays down a lot. Long walks probably would not be her thing.
