URZA is a smart, active, happy, baby girl. She is approximately 10 weeks and 10 pounds of energy. Her coat is a very soft black and white (almost looks like some brown is coming in around her cheeks) and we believe she will have a short or possibly medium coat. She loves people, toys, other dogs, and even cats. She longs to play with any person, canine, or feline that is up for fun times. She can be a little overzealous in her play, but she’ll learn boundaries as she grows and develops.
PAUL is a delightful 3 year old Border collie mix. He is a rough coat that weighs in at about 50 pounds. His long coat will require regular maintenance. Paul loves people. He has been put on this earth to be petted, loved, and adored. He took right to his foster family, wanting love and affection from day one. He has not met a stranger (makes immediate friends) he hasn’t loved, and they love him right back. Both the shelter and vet staffs adore him, reinforcing with “Paul is charming,” something we already knew.
As much as PAUL loves couch and cuddle time, it is very important for him to have a balance between activity and down time. Paul experienced injuries to his back legs (it is quite obvious observing his gait). When he first got to his foster home, he exhibited some stiffness and slowness. We got him out moving around and, in short order, he became more limber, enjoyed the activity, and began running with the other dogs while showing much greater mobility. We have consulted with an orthopedic specialist to find out more about the injuries. They suspect this happened a year or more ago, and while healed, the legs did not set properly. Paul will not be a hiking partner, but short, frequent walks, as well as backyard activity, will be very important for Paul in order to maintain muscle tone. He will also need to be kept at a lean body weight to achieve less stress on the joints. The Dr. suggests he lose another 2 – 3 pounds. Supplements and treatments will be discussed in more detail with applicants. Surgery is not a realistic option due to recovery time with little to no value-add for Paul. He should be able to live a very normal and happy life.
Meet sweet little BLUEBELL. She is a 12-week-old, tri-colored, female border collie with a beautiful soft rough coat, who weighs in at about 10 lbs. Bluebell is a curious and friendly girl. She loves her foster dog friends, big and small. She is also good with the resident cat. Her favorite thing is to wrestle and play with the smaller foster dog in her foster home. She will come when called with sweet kissy voices. She is a smart girl who learns quickly and takes treats softly. Bluebell greets new people well. She may be a little shy at first, but is happy to come over and say hello after a few minutes.
JANET is a seven-month-old, smooth-coated border collie cross, who weighs in at 38 pounds and stands about 24” at the shoulder. She is a well-balanced girl with inquisitive and curious brown eyes. She has a true black and white coat and freckles on her legs.
JANET is goofy, fun, energetic, and very curious. She loves to explore the yard on her own, and mostly stays close to her humans when outside. Both agile and athletic, she will run and turn on a dime, then stop, crouch, and look at you. If she hears no command or gets no response, she will continue to run and play on her own.
LITTLE ZIP is a playful, joyful sprite of a girl. A year old and weighing 29 pounds, Zip likes people, greeting them happily, playing with them, and snuggling in an available lap, whenever she has the chance. (See the photo with her foster dad. She thinks he’s pretty special.) She also likes other dogs, large and small. When a little dog came to visit, Zippy let the little dog roll her over on her back, and she adjusted her play style to fit the style of the little dog.
Meet TATE, TATE the Great! This darling boy is 11-months-old and 30lbs, although he still has room to grow. He is a classic border collie in every way. He has a black and white rough coat, four white paws, and the smallest speck of white on his tail. TATE is smart, energetic, and so very loyal.
His fosters haven’t met a person that doesn’t love TATE ,and TATE hasn’t met a person that he doesn’t love! He greets everybody at the door with bounds of energy and thinks they have surely shown up to simply play with him. Shortly after taking a seat, it is likely that TATE will climb into your lap one paw at a time. And if he isn’t feeling shy, he will jump into your lap. He loves to be petted and told what a good boy he is!
We are excited to announce our sweet mama MAGPIE is available for adoption. You may have seen her beautiful Halloween pups adopted out last year. She is a 52 pound, 3-year-old border collie mix. She has a silky, smooth coat and black and white coloring. Magpie is long and lean with a white-tipped tail.
MAGPIE has a sweet and friendly disposition. She loves people and other dogs and wants to play and be part of the pack. She will do well with another young dog who also like to wrestle and chase, or an older dog that loves to play and run. Magpie is praise- motivated and is very smart. She sits nicely for a cookie and has been working on her manners. She would benefit from further obedience training to be the best dog she can be.
This is Carrie. She is one of the “Halloween Puppies”. Carrie is an adorable tri color / fawn, black, and white smooth coat Border collie cross. Born on September 17th, she is now twelve weeks old, and is eagerly ready to find her forever home. Carrie is a wonderful, well-balanced little girl with dark, inquisitive eyes. She is always listening and thinking as she looks at you.
Meet TUCKER, an approximately one-year-old, 40-pound rough-coated Border collie with a heart as big as his boundless energy! This happy-go-lucky boy is all about love and snuggles, and he’ll charm his way into your heart in no time. Tucker adores his humans—he hasn’t met a person he doesn’t like. In fact, he’ll always choose to be by your side over spending time with his canine buddies.
Michael – 4 months
Meet 4-month-old JACK (of the Three’s Company litter; sisters Janet & Crissy are fostering with other families and will be available soon). The smallest of the three pups at 20 pounds, Jack is a rowdy, fun-loving, energetic boy, who loves people and other dogs with equal enthusiasm. Everyone and everything is his play pal. He even finds or makes a party at the vet’s office (see photos). He is very photogenic with his North by Northeast ears highlighted in every picture.
MARGIE is a quiet, mature soul at only 2-years-old. She connects quickly to people, and her human is her emotional anchor. This 44-pound cuddlebug loves to be next to you, crawling in your lap, and flipping upside down for the occasional belly rub. Get up though and she is right with you, following along to see what you are up to. She is a lower energy border collie, content to curl up in her bed nearby while her foster mom works.
PRESLEY and his brother Jagger, the Rock and Roll Boys, were found as strays, brought into the shelter by a Good Samaritan, and from there it was on to NCBCRA. They are 4 1/2 month old smooth coat black and white Border collie, Queensland Heeler mixes. PRESLEY (26 lbs.) will tell you he’s the better looking of the two, but Jagger will tell you the same story. All we can tell you for sure is that it was time the brothers led their own separate lives, so PRESLEY wound up coming to Tehama County, while Jagger is fostered in Placer County. They have really flourished apart, and now they are ready for their forever homes.
Hi, my name is Perkins – just call me Perk – and I am about 7 1/2 years young. My Mom thinks I am a Border collie mixed with some type of guardian dog because I watch over my family and pack mates. I have notified them TWICE of rattlesnakes in our yard, barking loudly while keeping my pack mates at a safe distance away. Mom says I am a hero dog, as we have little kids and lots of dogs in our yard that need protection from dangers like that.
Meet FLY girl. FLY is a four-year-old, 35lb border collie mix with a medium length coat. She has attentive ears and kind eyes that never leave sight of her person. Despite being on the shy side, FLY has never met a human she does not love.
FLY has the quickest happy feet when bounding to greet her people and follows them absolutely everywhere. She will crawl up on your lap and melt into you for a pet. An ideal day for FLY looks a bit like this: a quick trip outside before breakfast, naps all day and short trips around the house to follow her people, maybe a jaunt outside, dinner, and a good sleep wherever she sees fit that night, whether that be her bed, your bed, or her crate.
???? IN MEMORIAM: SHEBA Adopted September 2015 – Passed 2024 ????
From SHEBA’s foster at time of posting 2015:
Here is a beautiful red and white, rough coat female, three years old, ready for her new home. SHEBA is playful, fun and energetic. She is housebroken (not one accident in her foster home) and crates easily for daytime rest periods and for sleeping quietly throughout the night. She LOVES to ride in the car…..did we mention how much she loves to go for a drive? SHEBA has attached herself to her foster parents and likes to hang out with us. While very affectionate, she is not obnoxious or pushy for attention. She loves to be petted (always down for a tummy rub) and in return will give nose snuffles. She is quite the cuddle aficionado. While she fancies herself a lap dog, she’s weighs about 55 pounds so discretion here is advised.
From SHEBA’s Dad Chris:
Sheba was loved by everyone she came into contact with. She was the door greeter, made sure everyone was good. Sheba loved going on car rides. She had the biggest smile on her face and she kept hitting you with her paw because she wanted you to hold her paw and she was thanking me for taking her on a ride. I moved out to Ohio, Sheba was in the front seat the whole time and she enjoyed that trip. When she got to her new house she was happy and felt at home and checked everything out.
She got me up in the morning so she could go outside and be in the yard. When it rained or snowed she come in happy and would jump on the foot stool to get her spa treatment of being dried off.
She was a cuddle bug and a love bug. She was very well loved. She did come back in a dream of mine and sat next to me and was happy with a big smile on her face and let me know she is with me always and that she is happy.
Meet little 5 month old KAI who currently weighs in at 28lbs. He’s a merle sable with the most gorgeous blue eyes. Kai has been in foster with a female Kelpie and has met many other dogs who he immediately loves. He’s met children and thinks they are just grand.
KAI is medium drive with exceptional trainability as he just wants to please. He’d do well in a family and would excel as a nice training prospect for any one of the numerous dog sports like Agility or Treibball. He walks great on leash and picks up commands like the brilliant puppy he is. He learned the tug game quickly and is willing to “give” when the tug item becomes still. Did I mention how much he wants to please?
Meet PENNY Lane, a 28-pound, one-year-old Border Collie who’s blossoming as she progresses through adolescence. Social and friendly, PENNY enjoys spending time with both people and other dogs, and she loves a good romp in the yard. With her strong herding instincts, PENNY will thrive best with an owner who has experience with Border Collies and understands their unique needs.
