TY

June 25, 2022 in Featured, Our Dogs /by Lewis Beitz

Hi. My name is Ty.

I am about 6-years-old, and I am a Border collie mix, weighing about 50 pounds. My coat is gorgeous, shiny, and medium-length. The first thing I hear people say when they meet is “What a lovely dog!” And they are right. Not only am I gorgeous, but very well- mannered and loving. I am a BUDDY dog, just bursting with cuteness, personality, and devotion. I go everywhere, and wherever I go, I am very well-behaved. No jumping, or barking, no yapping at dogs across the street, or lunging at the end of the leash, and no barking at the mailman or garbage people. I am well-balanced, calm, and centered, especially for a herding dog.  I even behave well at the coffeehouse or tea shop.

MEG

June 24, 2022 in Featured, Our Dogs /by Lewis Beitz

MEG is a darling 11 pound, 10-week-old Border collie/McNab mix girlie, with the slick, easy-care McNab coat, & the smarts & keen attention common to both breeds.  She is a confident, enthusiastic, social girl.  She has a “bring it on” attitude & wants to do everything, sometimes all at once, which makes for some hilarious moments.  She wants to make sure that she doesn’t miss a thing.  Meg is rocket fast & already very agile for a pup; she is a capable climber & jumper.  Meg seems to want to have some kind of job. Sometimes she chooses to chase, crawl on, and steal toys from the older dogs in her foster home. They are mostly tolerant of her antics, & eventually she will leave them alone, finding a great time doing something else.  Meg thinks it’s all fun & can’t understand why everyone else isn’t joining in.  She loves tug toys, chew toys, sticks (although we discourage that for her safety), & she loves any & all treats.  So, she will work & learn for toys & treats.

SARGENT

June 20, 2022 in Featured, Our Dogs /by Lewis Beitz

SARGENT (AKA Sarge) is a 36+ pound, 6-month-old neutered border collie mix, who is as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside.  Like his sister Tootsie, he is active & playful, yet is surprisingly easy-going for an adolescent pup.  He is endearingly clumsy & goofy sometimes, but don’t let this fool you!  Sarge is smart as a whip & learns whatever is asked of him quickly.  For example, he learned to use the doggy door in his foster home in a fingersnap!

TOOTSIE

June 19, 2022 in Featured, Our Dogs /by Lewis Beitz

TOOTSIE is a 25#, 6-month-old spayed border collie mix, who has a lovely, gentle temperament.  She has a beautiful sleek coat.  Like her brother Sarge, she is active & playful. She particularly likes to play with her brother.  She might like a home with another playful dog.  She is friendly & social with people, but will offer an alert bark when someone she doesn’t know comes to call.  She is easy-going, & is a little bit on the soft side.  Tootsie likes to please & doesn’t like to think she’s made her human unhappy.

ADOPTED – Freddy

May 30, 2022 in 2022, Alumni /by Lewis Beitz

ADOPTED – FREDDY is classically marked smooth coat black and white Border collie. He is 5 months of age, 28 lbs and full of spunk. FREDDY is a very active Border collie mouthy youngster who is still learning. And learn he will. He is very smart, knows sit, is doing ok with “crate’ (but he’d much rather be out and about), and has learned to be quiet and still before being fed. In fact that is about the only time he’s still. He does bark some, but mostly when egged on by the other dogs. He is very treat and praise motivated so training should be a blast. An adopter experienced with the personalities of Border collies / herding dogs would be a huge benefit.

TIBBY

May 24, 2022 in Featured, Our Dogs /by Lewis Beitz

TIBBY (Mr. Tibbs) is a 25lb, 6-month-old male Border collie mix with ears for days! He has a lovely easy care smooth coat (like a Labrador retriever’s coat) and the cutest spots on his big ears. In fact, he might have some Labrador retriever in this background.  TIBBY gets along very well with other dogs and would be best placed in a home with other dogs. He will chase cats, but he does not hurt them so he could live in a house with very dog savvy cats. TIBBY loves the human that he is bonded with and will cuddle (for a few minutes) on the couch or lay at your feet. His favorite thing in the world is playing with his foster pack mate Cindy, who is about the same age.  In play, he likes to wrestle and run zoomies, so any dogs who engages him in play would need to like his play style. He will back off if the other dog lets him know “enough already.”  He is a young puppy, after all!   He leaves the older dog in his foster home alone, mostly.

DOVE

May 23, 2022 in Featured, Our Dogs /by Lewis Beitz

DOVE saw to it that all four of her Bird Pups found great homes, and now it’s her turn. DOVE sports a short white coat with red ticking behind her ears and an ever so subtle red strip along the middle of her back. She is slight of build. At 45 lbs. she looks like she should put on a few pounds, but even three squares a day has not resulted in added weight. We don’t know what her DNA says, but we know she has a border collie heart and mindset. She is very active, loves to run and play with her buddy Perkins and whatever puppy we have added to the mix. She loves to pick up random sticks, branches or tennis balls and let them try to catch her to take it away. They don’t succeed but they have fun trying.

ADOPTED – BUCKLEY

May 5, 2022 in 2022, Alumni /by Lewis Beitz

ADOPTED – BUCKLEY (BUCK BUCK) is an 11 week male bundle of joy. This 14 pound, tri-colored Border collie mix loves life. He has fun no matter what he’s doing. He enjoys being petted, will follow you around everywhere, and enjoys playing with his three adult dog siblings. He can be a little shy when he first meets another dog, but quickly gains confidence. He is not shy at all when meeting people. He loves everyone he meets. BUCKLEY would love another dog to learn from and hang out with, but may do well in a home as an only dog if his family wants to spend lots of time with him. If there is not another dog in the family he would benefit from play dates with other dogs.

ADOPTED – SALLY

April 30, 2022 in 2022, Alumni /by Lewis Beitz

ADOPTED – Little 17 pound SALLY is an adorable Borgi, a border collie/corgi mix.  Sally has the size & short legs of a corgi with the zip & smarts of a border collie.  She loves learning new things & is lightning fast.  Flyball height dog anyone?  When Sally first came into rescue, she was easily overwhelmed & was reluctant to engage in anything with her foster mom.  But Sally is quick to warm up when she gets to know someone.  Within a couple of days in her foster home, she was running wild zoomies in the backyard, retrieving toys & bringing them back every time (she obviously learned this in her previous home), & seeking pets & lap time with her foster mom.  Sally crate-trained in a fingersnap & has never had an accident in her foster home.

ADOPTED – Cindy Lou

April 18, 2022 in 2022, Alumni /by Lewis Beitz

ADOPTED – Say hello to our sweet little CINDY LOU. CINDY is a 25lb, 4m old BC mix female. She has a super soft smooth coat and a cute little white tip tail. CINDY loves her people and will follow her foster mom around the house, then settle at her feet or in her lap. She is a very cuddly, sweet girl! CINDY also loves other dogs and is very playful. She chases the cats in her foster home, but does not try to hurt them. She would do best in a home without cats, or with cats that are very dog savvy.

ADOPTED – BENJI

April 12, 2022 in 2022, Alumni /by Lewis Beitz

ADOPTED – Meet BENJI! He’s about 4-5 years old according to our vets. A beautiful mix of border collie and probably heeler, this sweet boy is looking for his perfect home. BENJI weighs in at just over 40 pounds. He is friendly with everyone he meets. He gets along well with his foster brothers, but tends to get a little jealous when someone else is getting any pets. BENJI would happily settle on being an only dog, but does fine with others too, just don’t be surprised if he tries to wiggle himself in between you and another dog to hog all the love! So, if you have a dog or two that are more sensitive and require more attention, BENJI might not be the dog for you.

PERKINS

April 10, 2022 in Featured, Our Dogs /by Lewis Beitz

PERKINS is a friendly boy who wants to be included in all his family’s activities. He loves being around people and immediately perks up when you walk into his area. He is hoping for one of two things…its meal time or he’ll hear the words “Let’s go outside.” He will rush to the door, tail wagging, just waiting for you to open it. The excitement doubles when you walk out that door with him. That way he can show off his “zoomies” skill, chase a ball or play with one of his dog buddies. His best bud right now is our little 10 week old baby girl Wren. They love to chase, wrestle and chew on the grass together. They also room together in a penned in area in our living room and really enjoy each other’s company. They have full access to our deck via the doggy door and use it so they can enjoy the indoors and the outdoors. Our dog savvy cats do not trust him, as he likes them way too much. For that reason he will need a cat-free environment.

ADOPTED – KIT

March 28, 2022 in 2022, Alumni /by Lewis Beitz

ADOPTED – KIT is a delightfully fun 1 ½ to 2-year-old female, light rough coat black tri border collie. She is about 30 lbs., but don’t let her petite size fool you; this girl is a little powerhouse.  Kit was picked up stray with the ball of her left hip broken.  She has had surgery to correct this and has made a full recovery!  Only those who know what they’re looking for, will notice any change in her gait.

KIT is quick to learn and has the energy to put her training to use.  She has been started in nosework, is great at Frisbee and fetch, and has basic obedience skills.  She’s a great tugger and will release on command.

ADOPTED – WREN

March 21, 2022 in 2022, Alumni /by Lewis Beitz

ADOPTED – At just under 4-months-old (born 1/27/2022), WREN is a fun, energetic, and unflappable girl of about 20 pounds. WREN loves to explore on her own, and mostly stays close by her humans when outside. While she likes spending time with her people, she also enjoys her foster siblings, chasing and romping around the yard together.

WREN is quite the jumper and climber; she can climb any wire crate or pen. It’s normal to find her sitting atop our double-stacked crates in her pen area.  She is not above using her siblings as a springboard to accomplish her “lofty” goals. She is both agile and athletic but still displays the clumsiness of the puppy she is, especially when she’s tired. Activities like agility or nosework may be something to look into for the mental and physical activities she will need to be the best she can be.

ADOPTED – LARK

March 21, 2022 in 2022, Alumni /by Lewis Beitz

Lark Adopted – Born January 27th, 2022, the Bird Pups (1 boy, 3 girls, all adorable herding dog mixes) will be ready to go to their new homes starting March 25th.  The Bird Pups were born in a rural shelter where they spent their first three weeks. One of our volunteers, who works at the shelter, rang us up to see if we could help. Sometimes we make the decision to intake dogs just because it’s the right thing to do, even when we aren’t sure exactly how much border collie DNA the dogs have.  The pups’ mama Dove appears to be a herding dog mix, white with light reddish / tan coloring on her ears and along her back. Dove needs to put on some weight but will probably be in the 55 – 60 lb range, and the puppies are currently the size of typical border collie pups this age.

ADOPTED – BIRDIE

Adopted – Betty White

March 19, 2022 in 2022, Alumni /by Lewis Beitz

Adopted – Named BETTY White because she came to us on Betty White’s birthday, our BETTY WHITE is a 4-year-old, 45 pound beauty.  And like Betty White of stage & screen & animal welfare fame, our BETTY WHITE is young at heart, playful & silly like a puppy, always entertaining with her antics.  Betty is simply delightful!  She always has a smile on her face, even when she first came into rescue & had little reason to smile.  Betty had been hit by a car & a good samaritan followed her into a field after her accident &  got her to help.  Shelter staff took her immediately to an emergency vet, where it was discovered that Betty suffered some broken ribs.  And anyone who has ever had one broken rib knows how painful that can be!  Betty needed a place to rest & relax for weeks while her ribs healed, & that’s where we came in.  Betty has been a stellar patient; we included some photos of her from her first vet visit to illustrate her good nature.  She was happy to greet everyone & be examined without one bit of ill will, even when she was painful.  And we’ve included video of her romping with one of her foster sisters to illustrate how beautifully she has healed.

ADOPTED – RUBY

March 19, 2022 in 2022, Alumni /by Lewis Beitz

ADOPTED – RUBY is a young lady that has a lot of enthusiasm for life.  You see, RUBY spent her first year of life in a small outdoor pen.  She certainly didn’t get the proper socialization that any dog needs and deserves. Despite her tough past, life is looking much better for Miss RUBY now!  RUBY is approximately fifteen months old and weighs about 45 pounds. A home where she can enjoy a lot of exercise and interaction with people and dogs would be ideal. She also needs her down (crate) time so more quiet and calm surroundings would benefit Ruby greatly. Experience with doggie confidence building will be a plus.

ADOPTED – JOSH

March 17, 2022 in 2022, Alumni /by Lewis Beitz

Meet JOSH, our three year old, 42 lb male Border Collie / Australian Cattle Dog mix sporting a soft, smooth coat with freckling on his paws, muzzle and chest.  He learned his name quickly and this smart, handsome lad has shown himself as quick to learn whatever we show him.  JOSH is a bundle of fun and joy bouncing out of his crate every morning ready for a day filled with exploring, playing with his 4 Border collie packmates at his foster home and waiting patiently…well, more or less patiently for a treat!  JOSH is a good guest here at his foster home. He learned to crate quickly and runs to his crate every time treats or dinner time is here. JOSH is quiet in his crate overnight. He has not had an accident while he’s been here so he is housebroken. He loads up easily in the car and rides nicely on road trips (even to the vet!).  JOSH plays nicely with his foster pack but this brash little chap had to be shown by his packmates where he was in the pack order. He took the lesson well.
