ADOPTED – WALNUT
WALNUT ——male--(AKA Wally) says: “I like to tell everything that I am the BIGGEST puppy, but really I’m only a little bit bigger than the others. I love toys a lot, but I love my foster mom even more. I am happy to lay around on the couch with her for a long time—well, a long time in border collie puppy minutes! She tells me that I am Mr. Personality, even though I don’t show it in the first five minutes of meeting someone. I think a puppy should check people out before giving lots of kisses & adorable wiggles. Toys, tunnels, treats are my three faves, but pleasing my people will be right up there at the top of my list, once we get close, & I’ll make you proud of me.”
ADOPTED – CEDAR
CEDAR ——male—says: “My real name is Cedar, but my foster mom calls me Cubby. I don’t know why except maybe I remind her of a baby bear. I am almost as tall as I am long, & I have something called ‘baby breath.’ I’ve been told that it really wins people over. Like my brother Wally, I am very sweet & love to give kisses. I like toys lots, especially the kind I can chew & chew & chew on; sometimes I forget that my brothers & sisters aren’t chew toys, but I’m quickly on to other adventures like playing with the other critters at my foster home or playing in the water. Maybe you would like to teach me to swim? I’m super smart & would learn quickly because I love toys & treats & being told what a good boy I am.”
ADOPTED – REDBUD
REDBUD ——female—(AKA Buddy) says: “I would love to be your best friend! That’s a good thing to know about me right away. I love everything: people, other animals, treats! Toys are super-dooper, & even though I’m a bit fluffy so seem like I might not be tuff, don’t be fooled: I love to play tug! It’s my favorite game right now. Our foster mom gave us some tunnels to play in, & wow, am I fast running through them. I hear there is a sport called agility that has tunnels & that you can tug when you do something really smart & good. I might like to do that someday. Like all of my brothers & sisters, I am so adorable, but I have a very special, upside-down, white V on my nose. If you take me home, you can figure out all of the things that letter might stand for.”
ADOPTED – POPLAR
POPLAR——female—(AKA Pop) says: “Well, I think my name fits me well because I’m very popular! My foster mom just corrected me & says that I’m called ‘Pop’ because I bounce around a lot. I can’t wait for my forever family to teach me to jump over things. I could jump over logs on hikes or I could learn to leap over agility jumps: broad jumps, wing jumps, doubles, & triples. I’m learning to come, but I come extra fast when I hear the food bowl or my foster mom’s hand rustling treats in her pocket. My foster mom says I’m a ‘traditionally marked border collie,’ but I’d rather learn & play than bother about how I look. Like my brothers & sisters, I love toys & treats, & most of all I love to learn & try things.”
ADOPTED – BONSAI
BONSAI—female—says: “The first thing my foster mom told me is that good things come in smaller packages. Yes, I am what people call the runt of the litter, but what I lack in size, I make up for in energy & enthusiasm: my go-to position is wiggle & when I find it hard to hold still, pets & love calm me down so I can start thinking like a border collie. I think I am going to have ears that stand up like a jackrabbit. Even though I am a go-getter, I can be a little shy at first, so I’d be happiest with another nice & social dog to play with & lots of adventures & games to build my confidence. Geez, I even like the silly cats around this place!”
Adopted – ANDIE
1 - 2 year-old ANDIE is a 30lb Border collie / Australian Cattle Dog mix. Andie is deaf, but it does not stop her from being the life of the party. She is curious, high-energy, alert, and makes fast friends with people and other dogs.
ADOPTED – MAE
I’m not really sure how I got into border collie rescue as I am but a tiny girl. Found alongside a road, I was in need of some help, being only about 4.5-weeks-old and only 4 pounds, I surely could not fend for myself. Luckily for me, Northern California Border Collies Rescue & Adoptions had some room for me, so I got to go to this fun place with other dogs and cats and chicken and all sorts of fun things to meet and play with. And because I am so little and cute, they didn’t require a DNA test! They just think of me as a mini-border collie-wannabe! My rescue name is Mae, but my foster mom calls me Dinky Dog (I sure love hearing her say it, cuz I know if I come running to her I get a treat!)
ADOPTED – SAGE
Say hello to our sweet little SAGE! She is a 2 yr old BC mix, about 35 lbs with a smooth easy care coat and long legs that run fast. One of her favorite things to do is to be with her person. She will follow her foster mom around the house or lay quietly at her feet. SAGE gets along well with other dogs, and has shown no interest in cats. She is very friendly and greets people with a wag and a wiggle. SAGE is friendly with other dogs that are friendly to her but she can be somewhat dominant with more confident dogs. She likes to play rough with her foster pack. If she were to go to a home with other dogs, they would need to be OK with her style of play. However, SAGE would also do well as an only dog.
ALL PUPPIES ADOPTED – THE COTTONWOOD KIDS
Arriving in June, the six Cottonwood kids joined the pack in their foster family after a typical puppy quarantine. Soon they were running, playing, and within minutes figuring out the dog door and exploring the great outdoors. The garden, the big fountain, the cats, the tortoises, the chickens, and the other border collies all provide great adventures. Their foster mom and other visitors quickly won these puppies’ hearts & trust. At about 10-weeks-old, these Border collie/Aussie/McNab mix pups sure show all the characteristics typical of these breeds: smarts, speed, need to have things to do, & lots of energy (can we say “drive”?) They all have easy-care coats. The pups sleep together in an x-pen & eat all their meals in individual crates. They are learning to use newspapers in their pen (as well as the yard when they’re all outside) so should housebreak easily when consistently taken outside. They love treats & toys, which will make training fun.
Adopted AHSOKA
AHSOKA is 9 weeks of age and 9 pounds of cuteness and cuddling! She loves sharing the pool, the agility tunnel, and the living quarters with her brother Mando. They play, wrestle, rest, and then start all over again. AHSOKA enjoys the pool and loves to chase the water coming out of the hose. We think AHSOKA will be a smooth coat but it’s tough to tell at such a young age. AHSOKA loves people and gets along with other dogs while cats are anyone’s guess at this stage. They both enjoy following our dogs around when we take them on an adventure in the yard. She greets us very enthusiastically any time we enter the area. AHSOKA sleeps quietly through most of the night in the X-Pen with open crate setup. We are up about 6 for one of our other dogs so we aren’t quite sure how long she’d sleep. She understands the basics of potty training and generally keeps her pen clean. AHSOKA is ready to start her new adventure with her forever family.
Adopted MANDO
MANDO is 9 weeks of age and 11 pounds of fun, fun, fun! He loves sharing the pool, the agility tunnel, and the living quarters with his sister Ahsoka. They play, wrestle, rest, and then start all over again. MANDO enjoys the pool but does not chase after the water coming out of the hose like his sister does. We think MANDO will be a rough medium coat but it’s tough to tell at such a young age. MANDO loves people and other dogs while cats are anyone’s guess at this stage. They both enjoy following our dogs around when we take them on an adventure in the yard. He greets us very enthusiastically any time we enter the area. Mando sleeps quietly through most of the night in the X-Pen with open crate setup. We are up about 6 for one of our other dogs so we aren’t quite sure how long he’d sleep. MANDO understands the basics of potty training and generally keeps his pen clean. MANDO is ready to start his new adventure with his forever family.
ADOPTED – BLAZE
Special Needs Please read entire bio -- BLAZE is a sweet 6 year old boy looking for his forever loving home; a home with knowledge and experience of embracing fearful dog behavior. BLAZE is a beautifully marked Border Collie and Australian Shephard mix, black, white and red, weighing approximately 60 lbs. He was under socialized as a puppy and then experienced the trauma of surviving a major fire to his home, property, and community. BLAZE is sensitive to change and to environments where he feels he has no control. BLAZE wants to trust. He loves to play with people and other dogs, yet he has a high startler response.
Adopted OLIVER
Meet OLIVER! He is an nine (9) month old Border Collie/Labrador mix. He has ears like velvet and is puppy soft. He’s a very lovey, kissy dog who loves to play catch, go to the dog park, go for walks and is up for just about anything. He’s very gentle and would be a good dog for a loving family due to his amazing disposition. Oliver is a very happy puppy and has no bad habits that I’ve found as of yet. He has been a joy to have in my home. Oliver has gotten along with all other dogs and people he’s met so far. He’s a bit bashful at first but within seconds, he’s having fun and the life of the party!
Adopted – BILLIE
Meet lovely BILLIE! She is from the same litter as Q and BILLIE so that makes her about 14 weeks old. We think she is border collie / McNab. She has a beautiful smooth, shiny black coat with white feet and chest, and a couple of cute spots on her head. BILLIE is easily one of the nicest, happiest foster dogs we’ve had.
Adopted MAGPIE
MAGPIE is a 14-week-old border collie/McNab girlie, who is sweet as pie. She enjoys puppa-ventures to the coffee shop where she sits nicely to greet people, lifting her face up to ask people to stroke her cheeks & pat her head. She travels with her foster mom to notice birds like big osprey in their nest or red-winged blackbirds along the rice field roads. She was a well-behaved pup at the vet for her exam & vaccines, taking treats & following the vet tech around the room, deciding quickly that the vet tech was a friend. While she is learning to be a well-mannered pup--sitting when asked, not jumping up, walking on a harness & leash, etc.—she is still learning. We’re very happy with her progress
ADOPTED – Q (Now Logan)
I am “Q” and I am ADORABLE! I am so Q-ute that even when I do puppy things my foster parents cannot get mad at me. Look at me and a smile will follow. I am happy no matter what and I will make you happy I chose you. I was born about 4 months ago and weigh 23 lbs. I am a smooth coat border collie mix and while my ears mostly stay up now, I am told to expect them to be up all the time when I get to be a couple months older.
ADOPTED – CAL
Say hello to our sweet boy CAL, a 1 1/2yr old BC weighing in at around 40lbs. CAL's favorite thing in the world is chasing a ball, or running around with a ball in his mouth. Second favorite would be following his person around the house and doing his best to be helpful. CAL gets along great with other dogs and even cats! He loves to meet new people and always greets everyone with a smile and a wag. CAL is a special needs boy. He was born with what the vets suspect is a congenital defect that caused his hind legs to bow inward. This does not interfere with his ability to run and play and lead a normal life. He gets along really well. CAL has seen several vets and while a reconstruction surgery is an option, he is leading a normal life without surgery. Because the surgery would be so extensive and the long recovery would mean months of crate time, we have chosen not to pursue surgery. We are happy to talk more about his condition and what it means for him, if you’re interested.
Adopted – Maverick
Say a big Hello! To our 4 month old male pup MAVERICK! Our happy, bouncy puppy came into rescue full of energy and typical puppy curiosity! He loves to play and explore everywhere, bug his foster brother and sisters, follow mom and dad around, then, as a typical pup, he plops down wherever he is and takes a good refreshing nap! MAVERICK is a black and white medium coat border collie and we have no clue as to his background circumstances or why he ended up in a shelter. He is neutered, has been given his vaccines, is on heartworm preventative, and is now microchipped. He is crate trained and sleeps quietly in his crate overnight. MAVERICK is very affectionate and loves to cuddle, be petted and tummy tickles are a must! MAVERICK weighs in at 23lbs....and growing!
Adopted SYLVIE
SYLVIE is a compact, 37 pound young lady, who is about 8-months-old. Based on her markings & build, we guess that she is a border collie/Australian cattle dog mix. Her coat is short & slick, a beautiful black & white merle, & she has one ear that stands up like a toy soldier & the other that flops like a mini-lop rabbit. Her floppy ear may still stand up, but either way, she is adorable.
ADOPTED – MAGGIE
Maggie is a petite (33#) 3-year-old border collie mix with a heart of gold. Even when she was in the shelter, she was smiling, friendly, and wagging her tail with everyone she met. When she has gone to the vet for exams and vaccines, she has acted as if she was going to Disneyland. The staff said they have never had a dog come in that seemed so happy and comfortable to be there. She likes men and women equally and truly does not know a stranger.
